  1. I scout the fishing areas, double check all my flies to make sure they're ok, lube the lines, and reels, make sure that my vest has everything in it for opening day, and check with local fly shops to see if there's anything else that I may have forgotten.
  2. crystal clear shots!! AWESOME
  3. The main reason I'm asking is due to cramping the vise. I mean, If I had a c-clamp I might be able to fit the other accessories on there easier. Only have a trash bag, and bobin holder, and thats cramping it. Perhaps I can find a longer main stem for the vise also.
  4. I have a pedestal mount myself, but was wondering which one you have and why you feel its better then the other?
  5. I put a nature cd in. It's called streamside. Basicaly just a recording of a mountain stream. Puts me in the mood for tying. Ipods are too confusing. Tried using the kids, and they have to show me how to download stuff to it.
  6. WOW  ! Those are all some great looking flies everyone. I can wait to get em
  7. I agree with the title statement. There have been times I've been like, ok this looks interesting. And, then I have nothing I could really say about it either because I dont really know about it, or It had to do with something between other members which I wouldnt really need to give my opinion on.
  8. way to go man. Just bustin your chops. Still too windy to throw a decent cast. Hoping for it to calm down for this weekend. Forcast is looking great. I got my fingers crossed.
  9. :wallbash: , almost forgot. CONGRATS ON THE GRADUATION :yahoo:
  10. I'd go limo. It's a once in a lifetime thing man. The escalade thing, not bad either. I mean, you dont get the privacy , But this could lead to bigger things for the graduation. Perhaps more freedom that night. I mean having dad drive isnt a bad thing. My dad drove me and my date to the prom. Then he went all out for our graduation....LIMO :headbang: Both great ideas. BUS.....not so good.
  11. The best desk out there, hands down is the one you create yourself. I found out that a tying desk is only as good as you make it. Dont get me wrong, of all the tying areas that are posted on the forum, I would love to have em all. I have used quite abit of those set ups when creating my own. But, the thing to do is get a long folding table, or a work bench from somewhere like sears. I seen a nice desk at a dept store today also. But, if drawers arent where your comfortable with em, or its not big enough, your not gonna be satisfied with it. My suggestion, and its just that a suggestion, is to buy a plane jane desk, or conference table. Then buy some multi drawer storage units. set up the table, then place your supplies on it. Find what you have the most of and place them in the bulk drawers, and work your way up. Parts drawers, and peg boards are also handy to use. Hopefully this can help you. Remember, the important thing is organization. If your not organized, it will frustrate you, and slow you down. Hope this helps.
  12. I myself tie about 2-3hrs a night. I mostly tie in the winter, due to not being able to fish. On the weekends I can spend up to 6hrs a day tying without a problem. I have a VERY understanding g.f.!!
  13. his might be somewhat out of the way for a few, but in the spring and summer I do construction work. There's a square used in roofing for cutting hips, and valleys and such. It makes a perfect brace. It has a double edge, that if layed on the edge of a table, you can apply pressure hold it tight and make your cuts. Hope this helps. Oh they only cost about 3bucks at home depot.
  14. I agree. sounds like a plan!
  15. Welcome! And be prepared to seek counciling! This is an addiction, not a hobby. :j_k:
  16. 21? best year of my life. Yea I'll go for 21. not a prob.
  17. i'm in. damn, i've turned into a swap fanatic!!! pattern tbd.
  18. between those two posts, I think they covered it. practice, practice, practice. And lay out your materials so they're at your fingertips so to speak. If you know where things are at, and you can get them quickly you can increase your speed drasticly.
  19. there was a virtual class on the forum not to long ago on this. stack your hair on the top of the shank. 1st do a soft wrap then 2 more firm wraps. then half hitch to lock it in place. Roll over to the bottom of the hook, and then take a clump of hair, even the tips, dont stack, and tie in. soft wrap, then 2 tight wraps, and half hitch. repeat until you get to your finish point. Thats the best I can explain it.
  20. elk hair caddis. works for cold, and warm water fish.
  21. I agree with flytyingscotsman. It would make the fly look to odd it ya built the head back to put dumbell eyes in. I'd go with stick on eyes.
  22. I just use my hands. I mean it's one less tool in the cradle, and I dont have to think about what I'm doin. It seems like when I did have one, and tried to finish the fly with it, I had to think how to operate it. Its just easier to use the fingers.
