  1. I'm interested, but I know nothing about fly swaps. I tried looking up rules, but didn't see any
  2. Classified section is usually always at the bottom of the page on forums, so I don't think there is a problem with that. Filtering the classified section can work, but I think there needs to be some adjustments for it to work properly. The waiting 1 or 2 days for it to be posted is just way too long. I think if it was changed to a couple or a few hours is needed. Maybe even assign another person access to the classifieds as moderator who can approve or deny new listings. Once approved. The person needs to be able to edit his or her listing. Make changes or correct errors and to be able to lock the thread so people can see that it is sold before reading everything in the post to find out it's sold. I've seen some forum that automatically block people from posting unless they have a certain amount of post. So, instead of denying peoples listing or having to keep telling everyone the rules, it's automatically blocked, but also automatically granted access when they do have the right amount of post. Another good feature would be is if someone has over 300 posts or whatever, they don't have to wait for approval to post in the classifieds. Another option would be. This is just a idea. But to have a classified membership. Membership cost $2 per year to be able to post in the classified section. This is to keep random anonymous people from signing up or doing transactions with people. It's makes sure they have a current payment address on file. That way, if something ever happens, you have a record of who they are. Who wants to rip someone off if you have your payment information on file. Only can be used for bad transactions only if needed. Some people might feel safer this way to, I know I would. I'm sure there will be some anti government tinfoil hat people that don't approve, but not everyone can be happy right? I've seen one of the best local gun forums go down in flames because they started charging people way too much to use the classified section, not the site is junk. It's was like $35 for 3 or 6 month. So not worth it for anyone who just post a $10 item once or twice a year. So, keep the membership low, just to get that info can help out in many different ways. These are just ideas I thought I would share with you. The classified section will work without these things I suggested, but I thought they where worth mentioning. I have close to 200 online sales on forums and Craigslist, so I do have some private party sales experience. Selling live fish, aquatic plants, guns, cars, automotive parts, collectible items, electronics and many other things.
  3. I've been active for years on many large scale forums from automotive, guns, aquarium, other little sites that are gaming clan base websites and fishing websites and I haven't seen 1 single spam bot posting in the classified sections. Some forums I signed up for just to post in the classified with 1 post count. I can edit, delete or lock my topic instantly at any time. I have seen what you are talking about many years ago, but not in the last couple to few years. Maybe there is a feature that is not turned on or someone needs to look into why all those other forums never get spam bots, but this one does. The forums I go on or mainly USA visitors only, so maybe with alot of people being from around the world where alot of the spam bots come from is why you see more of it here. Just a thought. The only reason why I brought it up is because I seen how active and important it can be when the classifieds are healthy. Not really going to notice it unless you seen 20 to 60 new listing per day and see many items sell fast with happy buyers and sellers. Things are running just fine here the way they are, but if your not into buying and selling, your not really going to care or care to fix it. Having to wait until you make 40 post or wait 2 days before it gets posted doesn't make much sense. Sounds like a good idea when you just think about it, but in reality it's no good. You wouldn't really know unless you use the classified section. Since I brought this up with my first post, it seems that the classifieds have picked up a little bit.
  4. That is more like a larva/maggot then a scud.
  5. I found these little flies fun to tie and there is so many ways to tie them. Lets see your Scuds! Here's mine I just tied a few minutes ago. It's one of my favorite looking flies I have tied so far. TMC 206BL Size 16. Veevus Size 10/0 Thread
  6. Different from what I usually see, but I really like it. Nice job.
  7. Yup. I keep searching around wondering if there something I wasn't seeing, but then I read the rules and made a post and then I seen the problem. Shouldn't have to rely on other forums for buying and selling when this should be the place to go with so many people here.
  8. I knew this would be the response I would get from someone about this.. Instead of addressing the real issues as to why the classified section of this forum is a total failure, you try to turn it around on me like I'm the only one who has the problem.. I'm just the only one that brought it to attention.. No matter what I could have said, I would have gotten the same response. obviously if I don't like it I don't have to use it. Isn't that the answer for everything? Just like a cook in a restaurant. If there is a dish on the menu that is not good, you bring it to the cooks attention right? But if the chef thinks it's fine, it stays on the menu.. It can be fixed, but if the cook doesn't want to change it, then everyone has to keep eating it or just not order it. Good solution yeah? And to even ask me if I'm just bragging about selling my stuff.. really? and no one said anything about it being a bad forum either.. Obviously a sore subject, so I won't bring it up again.
  9. Not trying to sound rude, but the classified section here is setup in the worst way I have ever seen on any forum I have ever been to. After trying to make a new post of a item for sale, I have to wait 1 to 2 days just for it to show up on the forum? I have sold items within minutes at other places, so the time it takes for it to finally show up and days wasted not being able to show the listing, what is the point? I wont even post here with items for sale anymore jsut because of this and is also probably why there is no action at all in the classified section. Other fly tying forums that are dedicated to a simple US state has 20 post per day and very active with all members. Great place to hang out and buy and sell and build relationships by trading. There is also no delete button for when someone sells a item or to be able to lock it so then a mod can see it and delete it. A month after you sell a item, the listing still just sits there at the top. I been to brand new forums that have a way more active classified section. Am I missing something or? I'm not trying to sound rude, but I'm just getting to the point. It's not active because it's not a good environment to want to post in and since it's this way now, no one will even bother to even look in there anyway.. This forum is very big, there is no other reason why this section should not be more active. I'm new to fly tying and just myself have made 8 classified listings on other forums and have sold everything I tried to sell.
  10. ok thanks. I looked closer at the tip of the hook and it has a knife edge on it which I thought was pretty cool. I never seen or noticed it before on any other hooks I've had.
  11. I just picked these up the other day from a local store. 50 pack for $2.87 I couldn't pass it up. I tried looking them up online to see if they are really good or just average or below grade hooks. I can't find anything at all.. By the looks of the packaging and the price, I'm assuming they have been sitting around lost in the back for many many years? So long that the are even lost from the internet ? haha
  12. Thanks flytyer56 First attempt tying a small fly. I always been tying size 8 and just the other day I picked up a few other hooks. I always thought about it and finally did it and I think it turned out pretty good for the first attempt. Size 14 Woolly Bugger.
  13. I just needed to wrap it tight. I was wrapping what I thought was very firm, but I needed to be wrapping tight tight. Thanks for everyone help. Second attempt at the Matuka. Wire broke and I had to tie it back on at the rear of the hook and the collar got messed up. I think I need heavier wire.. Ultra wire small seems to be a little too fragile. I will just tie it to some string and throw it in the river.
  14. The chenille in Medium Ultra chenille so it's pretty dense. But, I will try making it tighter. I thought I did it pretty tight, but I will try super tight and see what happens and post back with my results. Thank you I'm new, so I'm still learning the simple things
  15. How to keep tinsel from slipping? I always have this problem when using tinsel.. When I start my wraps, it always slips off the back of the fly when I start.. How do I prevent this? When I see others tying flies in video, it always seems flawless and never any issues getting it to stick where it is suppose to when wrapping.. I even tried wrapping it tight and still no success.. Then when it looks like I have it, I start to lay down my wire and just the wire touching it makes the tinsel slip off the back.. Very irritating and I keep having to tear apart my fly and start over.. I tie the material down on the side or underneath the hook and still same results..
  16. Nice looking hackle. What kind is that? I like the marabou to.
  17. I was at Ikea the other night and I found the perfect little desk lamp for fly tying. Only cost $10 bucks
  18. I have had little pan fish and little trout die from not being able to get the hook out with a barb. Not fly, but standard hooks from gear fishing. Depending on where the hook is set into the fish, it just doesn't wanna come out..
  19. I'm sure he already bought a camera since this post is 2 years old I was going to recommend not getting one of the tuff cameras if your looking for image quality, but too late
  20. After how many hours in fresh water should the line be cleaned? I only got about 1 hour on my line, but I didn't clean it after I used it about 2 months ago..
  21. What fly is that? Woolly bugger bead head or?
  22. I thought all the line types where BS before I ever got my line in the water for the first time. I mean come on.. Why would it be better to use one species specific line over another. I can't catch Bluegill on my 5wt line as well as I could if I got pan fish line? I can see getting a better line that is more slick or weighted, but 10 or whatever different species specific lines, do I need to get them all to catch each fish? Do I need to buy new spools for each line or strip my spool every time I go fish at a different place? Isn't carp the same fish that eat cigarette butts or is that a different carp?
