  1. Olive Matuka This fly calls for a dyed olive hen hackle for the wing and the collar, and you'd think that with a room full of feathers, I'd have one. I had to substitute some dyed pheasant. I think I like it better. Grey Matuka
  2. It doesn't take me very long to count my money, cuz I have a wife.... and a boat. But for some reason, I still don't have much time to tie flies.
  3. Some more from the Orvis Index. Grizzly King Royal Coachman Bucktail Light Spruce Red Matuka
  4. Holy smokes Norm, you're tying up a storm. Lots of eye candy there for sure. They are very nice, thank you.
  5. Had a pet gar when I was in high school, named Schnidley Whiplash because of the way they hunt. Nice video Mike, nice water. That's one of the reasons I like to fish, you never know what you're going to get. You know, like a box of chocolates. Are the peacock bass in your waters yet?
  6. Bad Ass photography Mark! I can tell you picked up a ringlight. Don't you just love the way it gives you that shadowless look? Kind of intimidating also. No place to hide poor technique, at least for me. Excellent! Kimo Thanks buddy. Actually, I had the ring light all along, it was one of those with the magnifying glass in the middle of it that I never use. I decided to pop the glass out and give it a try. What a difference it makes. Thanks again, I appreciate it.
  7. You too buddy, and everyone. Only one monster?
  8. I'm still tying classic flies from the Orvis Index with classic materials and methods. Sow Bug Then the book got into the Caddis fly larva patterns. The trout where I ice fish are really hitting Caddis Fly larva so instead of tying the varieties that were in the book, I tied patterns that look more like the bugs in the stomachs of the fish I was catching. The Caddis here have blue green bodies and use water grasses for their cases. So here some of them are with cases and without, Next the book got into the Streamers. The Black Nosed Dace. The Orvis Index called for a Mylar tube body, a red thread tag and white bucktail, black squirrel and brown bucktail. Mickey Finn Silver Darter. Golden Darter. Gray Ghost.
  9. Your place looks really nice. Nice place to hang out and chill.
  10. Those are very nice, what a creative way to honor someone. Can you tell us what those ribbons were for?
  11. Just checking Buddy, you know how we do that here. Like I told you a million times, quit exaggerating.
  12. I am leaning toward brown, orange and gold.
  13. OK, they are matched 9' rods, a 6 wt. and an 8 wt., four piece rods (for going in bush planes) for big trout, salmon and big pike. I sent him the link to this blog http://akflytyer.blogspot.com/2013/ to show him the kind of fishing I would be doing with them and he pretty well knew what I wanted. He made some recommendations and we are going with them. It's really easy to get a custom rod, not at all like a custom knife.
  14. I just ordered two custom rods from Steve and boy am I excited about it.
  15. Hey Mike, It just occurred to me that I may have posted this in the wrong place. You can move it if you like. ME
  16. OH my gosh, the internet is full of fly tying videos. Not sure why anyone would want to see me do one.
  17. I've got two new fly fishing videos. The first is of a 92 pound halibut on fly gear according to IGFA rules (until we harpooned it). The second is of Alaskan salt water fly fishing in general. We catch halibut, ling cod, rock fish and greenling according to IGFA rules. I hope you enjoy them.
