Pheasant tail nymph

Hook - 16 2XL long

Bead - 2mm tungsten, gold

Thread - Red UTC 70

Tail - Green Pheasant tail fibers

Ribbing - Sm Uni wire, silver

Body - Green Pheasant tail fibers

Wing case - Red Pheasant tail fibers, UV coated

Thorax -  UV Peacock herl

Legs - Red Pheasant tail fibers

Lots of nice stuff this month, everybody.  
 

Poopdeck, I’m really liking those PT nymphs. I’m boring and always tie them in natural colors but think I need to brighten them up a bit.

Same, I fish mostly brown, black and olive but I fish a lot of local WW creeks with colorful copper johns and do well with smallmouths on them. Since a  nymph is a nymph in any configuration why not keep a few colorful ones on hand.

Thats interesting.  I never thought to use that pattern in warm water, probably because I haven't had much luck with it for trout.  What size fly do you use for the smallmouths?  And do you fish it as part of a two or three fly rig?

Body - Blue floss
Hackle - Black tied on as a collar and tied back and down
Wing - Barred teal barbs tied over the body

Orange Crush

Hook - Jig style
Bead - Anodized orange brass/tungsten
Weight - Lead free wire
Thread - Olive
Tail - Any barred feather fibers
Body - Orange holographic tinsel
Thorax - Olive sybai fine spectra flash dubbing

Coat the body area with a small amount of crazy glue prior to wrapping the tinsel forward and then overcoat with uv resin

Coat the body area with a small amount of crazy glue prior to wrapping the tinsel forward and then overcoat with uv resin.

Black Mercer's Micro May 

Hook - Nymph Hook, Size 12

Bead - 3.2mm Gold Slotted Tungsten 

Thread - Black UTC 70 Denier 

Tail - 3-4 Pheasant Tail Fibers

Body - Thread wraps to cover shank, stripped peacock quill (loose forward spiral), small silver wire, thin coat of black UV resin

Throax - Salt water flashabou,  pheasant tail (wingcase), black dubbing, black goose biots, thin coat of clear UV resin on wingcase/whip finish

I might change out the tail for goose biots next time
