DarrellP 0 Report post Posted April 19, 2023 Nice Norm. Simple but superbly tied. I tie a similar fly for prospecting.

Philly 0 Report post Posted April 20, 2023 I've been working on some frogs. This first one I must have started last year, but didn't finish it. I have the feeling I wasn't happy with. Decided to finish it up. This is the closest fly to an Alabama rig for bass. Bob Popovics "Schoolie Fly". I need do some work on it. Hook: Ahrex Swim Bait hook, size 4/0 Body: Mirror Image, Olive over White Eyes: 6 mm Living Eyes Head: UV resin. I decided I needed some smaller frogs. I have the pattern tied in medium and large. Hook: Ahrex Swim Bait hook, size 4 Body: strip of 6 mm white craft foam Eyes: 6 mm Living eyes Legs: Silicone spinner bait skirt layers Color: Permanent markers. My frogs are based on the plastic frogs the dark side bass fisherman throw. I was watching a show last weekend. The bass guys were tossing plastic popping frogs. Seemed like a good idea. This is what I came up with. Hook: Ahrex Swim Bait hook, sizes 2, 1/0 and 2/0 Body: 6 mm strip Head: Soft foam popper head, cut to fit. Eyes: 6 mm, 7.5 mm and 8 mm Living Eyes Legs: Silicone Spinner Bait skirt layers Color: Permanent Markers I coat most of my foam flies with a light coat of UV Flex resin. This helps them float. Guest Report post Posted April 20, 2023 Nice Gutless frogs! Need to try those. They look very weedless. Have tried the Schoolies and “Bait chasin Bait”. And my Alabama rig is a bit cumbersome with the 80# used for the spread. Had to get creative to fasten the hook and tubes.
BobHRAH 0 Report post Posted April 20, 2023 Those schoolie flies are really interesting. I see one where one of the following flies is attached with mono, but how are you attaching the other bodies to the main hook. Thanks, Bob H
Guest Report post Posted April 20, 2023 If it’s not tied to the hook there is a short double 50# braid connecting it.
Guest Report post Posted April 20, 2023 Wee lil foam disc popper drilled out with 223 cartridge hull. On #4 Mosquito hook. And a mean looking spider cut from a 32Special.

DWSmith 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2023 Last night I saw some well known artist tying parts for her jewelry on a fishing fly rotary vise. She does nice work but it's nothing compared to what all of you guys.do. You guys do AMAZING work! I'd never fish with most of the stuff I see here. I'd display it in a cabinet in my living room or office. I'm stunned. Is much of the stuff I see here for display and not for fishing?
niveker 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2023 Everything I tie is to be used, by me or someone else. My son, who's a bit of an electronics nerd, uses some old Sunrise vise's I had lying around to hold bits and pieces when soldering.
