April is really off to a great start, excellent ties all.

Poopdeck, sorry I beat you to it, that is a beauty tie.

Thank you. I was kind of dragging my feet and licking my wounds from a rough month at work

Campbell-s-Fancy-1080.jpg

Campbell's Fancy

Hook - Wet fly
Thread - Black
Tail - Light ginger hackle barbs
Body - Flat gold tinsel
Hackle - Light ginger tied on as a collar and tied back and down
Wings - Barred teal barbs tied over the body

Charles Campbell of Wall Street, New York, a lifelong member of the Beaverkill Trout Club, is the person from whom this fly got its name. Campbell was an old friend and customer of Reuben Cross. The Campbell's Fancy at one time was rated high on the Beaverkill for about two weeks around the first part of May, and curiously enough, nothing else would take its place.

Thank you. The stripped polish quills make great bodies and they come in nice colors.

Yeah, the ones I strip myself and color with a marker never have that well defined segmentation.

I wanted to jump in on the challenge but work had me very busy lately. Anyway, I had two Polish quills left and this was the only fly I finished since I broke the second one. I’ll have to get some more and try again.

Poopdeck, that is a beauty. I usually buy the dyed peacock herls on the stem and use my thumb nail to strip 'em.

Mixed wing green highlander

I took a stab at a married wing green highlander in the artistic sub forum. This led to several failed wings and a moderate amount of swearing.Didn’t want the barbs to go to waste and tied a mixed wing version real quick.  Look forward to fishing this one.

hook: #2 low water salmon

tip: silver oval

tag: gold floss

tail: golden pheasant crest

butt: ostrich

body: 1/3 gold, 2/3 green Angola

rib: silver oval

throat: yellow Schlappen collar tied down

wing: mixed ; red, yellow, green, natural ozark Turkey and golden pheasant

cheek: jungle cock

horns: blue and gold macaw

Thanks Sandan. I didn’t know dyed peacock heels were out there. Thanks for the heads up.
