FIN-ITE 34 0 Report post Posted October 9, 2017 FYI. I just measured the Ultra Wire and this is what I got. X-Small .005" Small .0075" Since I'm in America, I prefer not to use the metric system even though I can divide by 25.4 and multiply by .039.
chugbug27 0 Report post Posted October 9, 2017 @pt @Patriot Good news... Just got off the phone with Anglers Workshop ordering another item, but asked thinking of your exchange, and yes they do have and maintain the full line for Lagartun - wire, tinsel, the whole caboodle. Here's a link, AW sells the largartun x-fine round wire grouped in with their oval tinsel http://www.anglersworkshop.com/Tinsel/Lagartun-Oval-Tinsel
Patriot 0 Report post Posted October 10, 2017 The owner of of Lagartun died a couple of years ago and the company stopped producing product. His wife has taken over and is getting back to producing materials again. Kimo That explains why their wire is so hard to find. Thanks, Kimo!
flytire 0 Report post Posted October 10, 2017 looks like all tinsels to me. wire is not even specified in the description http://www.anglersworkshop.com/Tinsel/Lagartun-Oval-Tinsel Lagartun Tinsels are the finest tinsels that you can find anywhere. The finish is impeccable and the consistenty is unsurpassed. These are the tinsels used by some of the best Atlantic salmon fly and trount fly tiers in the worl. With a wide range of sizes, these oval tinsels are great for every use. The extra fine silk core is ideal for tags on Atlantic salmon flies. Flat-lying oval tinsels make very attractive tinsel bodies. These extra-strong tinsels will not break or tear apart on fish's teeth like less expensive tinsels. Available in sizes X-fine, fine, small, Medium and large. Choose from Silver, Gold, Copper or Peacock Pearl. . use thed search function for 'lagartan wire': nope none found none here either http://www.anglersworkshop.com/Wire_4
chugbug27 0 Report post Posted October 10, 2017 My mistake, I saw "fine round gold" as one of the items and assumed that's what patriot and pt were after. Sorry.

I've found that to be true as well. Most of my ties are on #20-#26 sized hooks and I need - or would like to have anyway, the smallest diameter wire I can find for these tiny flies. Will we ever be happy? LOL
chugbug27 0 Report post Posted October 10, 2017 Alright flytire, I come back in hopes of redemption of sorts. Dette Trout Flies in Roscoe NY has, or at least seems to me to have (and we now know what that can be worth...) xx-fine gold lagartun wire. I told him to expect some calls... Patriot 0 Report post Posted October 10, 2017 Nice try, chugbug27! All Dette Trout seems to carry is xx-fine in silver. If they had that in gold I would have bought a boat load. And, not a single juicy flavor in sight either.
flytire 0 Report post Posted October 10, 2017 i dont understand why you'd want to pay a premium for lagartan wires when ultra wire is an acceptable substitute and the fish will never know the difference but if you dont mind paying here is some 38 gauge 0.1mm .003 diameter wire in different colors https://www.wires.co.uk/acatalog/craft-col-0100.html Alright flytire, I come back in hopes of redemption of sorts. okay you win the prize my googling on this subject is done
redietz 0 Report post Posted October 12, 2017 Ok then don't use it or find some 40 gauge I don't. I'm saying it's not an acceptable substitute for the finest Lagartun wire.
chugbug27 0 Report post Posted October 12, 2017 So, I've ordered some xx-fine gold Lagartun wire from Dette, just to see what all the hubbub's about. He's only got 4 left, so doubters continue to doubt at your own peril. (Well, peril may be a bit overstating it.) cb27
