The Bull Frawg does float great and dubs great, I would put it right there with Superfine and Fly Rite, the Skeeter fuzz floats well, but a lot harder to work with for me. He has more that I have and use, on scuds, nymphs and buggers

👍

Thanks, neither did I until Silvercreek mentioned it in another thread.

Edit: Hat tip to SilverCreek for suggesting the alternative to Whiting's 'Chick-a-boo'

Good Lord !!!!  I know a place in Colorado on the Rio Grand, below the reservoir, that this fly would SLAY the trout, when the caddis hatch is on. I LIKE THIS FLY!

Thanks guys.  Pretty simple, easy tie.  Took me  a few flies to play around and find the correct length 'chic-a-bou' feather, twisting it to get the legs to look not too full or sparse, but it was pretty simple all in all.

The original recipe calls for 'Stretch Magic' for ribbing, I think to accentuate segmentation, but I opted for gold wire for a little flash.

Here's a SBS by the originator, Steve Schweitzer

Really, really like that Tabou Caddis. Never seen it before, somehow. Hits all the right buttons. @niveker I like the variations, a lot.

Muddled Golden Olive Crippler

This dye formula, more concentrated, yields something close to a copper olive if I leave it in the bath long enough. I’ve got some deer hair drying that is a good bit darker than the pronghorn used here.

hook - WFC Model 6 #8
thread - Danville 6/0 orange
tag - tinsel gold
rib - x-small wire gold
body - dubbing dyed golden olive (4 Tsp Rit Golden Yellow, 1/2 Tsp Rit Camel/1 cup water)
body hackle- grizzly dyed golden olive
shoulder - sharptail grouse dyed golden olive
collar/head - pronghorn dyed golden olive

When I’ve used this dye formula before, I diluted it in 4 cups of water and got a lighter shade.  Less water and longer time in the bath

Real happy with this color; may try adding a little more Camel to darken it just a bit. We’ll see how that works.

Regards,
Scott
