  1. They are here big time as well. I found one in town the other day, dark olive over a bleached out light olive. The veins in the wings are olive. This is the time of year for lots of "big bugs'. I was thinking about some sort of chernoble ant varriation. Gotta love top water action!!!
  2. Right on!! I saw them at Massy Hall in Toronto when they did the All the Worlds a stage tour.
  3. Nice one, I hope this fly works well, catching a fish on a pattern that you took the time to "problem solve" is fishing with gas!!!!
  4. Big fish eat little fish, my favourite way to fish for brownies is large streamers. It doesnt matter to me what is hatching, I have caught nice brown trout full of insects that nailed streamers. My first brown trout this year was only about 16 inches. It looked like it swalloed a hardball, it was full of worms/insects but nailed a smelt coloured zoo couger. Size 2 muddlers, buggers, mickey finns and other streamers is the prefered way to fish here for browns. Might want to have a well stocked streamer box with you, good luck.

    Happy Birthday, Bud

Happy Birthday big guy, I have found some north eastern sasquatch hair for you. I think I still have your address, and will send you a hank.
  6. I am sure there are plenty of reasons, but I think it just helps you feel the rod load better. Its great for casting bigger flies like streamers in strong winds. I am sure you will get several responses, but I can remember several past posts about overlining rods, might want to check them out. Good luck with the rod build.
  7. This is sad news, I will send a fly as soon as I can

    Homework

How about fur and feathers/endangered species, may even help you with your knowledge of materials.
  9. I think its awesome that walleye are creaming a classic type pattern. How's everything in Belleville? I have been watching the news and see the floods. I have been fishing for sea run browns at night and my line has been freezing. It has been "an old fasshioned winter", I hope it means for a good fishing season. Lots of snow and ice means lots of fish, at least lots of water to fish in.
  10. Awesome flies, flies any self respecting fish would clober
  11. Thats cool Will, great picture too!!
  12. I have used lots of things, I like old vcr tape boxes for larger flies. For smaller I will use what ever I can get my hands on. Most times the boxes the flies go in will be put in a padded envelope that I get at the post office. If I was tying flies for my father, as you are. I would get an inexpensive fly box. Placing or glueing a peice of craft foam inside any small tin like an altoids container will hold the flies in place. There is lots of info about shipping flies on the forum that may give you some ideas.
  13. Great fly, I like to fish streamers, but if I get the time to tie this and other small black nymps/emergers will be the first type of fly I will cast to the fish. Usually arround here the first insects to emerge in spring are small black midges
  14. Right on dude, I have realy enjoyed dealing with J. Stockard. I just got there mail order catalog the other day. My computer time is limited and can not realy order anything online right now.
  15. Another cool nymph. I am wondering if you guys that tie and fish these types of nymphs have tried a magic head to add movement. Its something I am going to try, especially in still waters. I know buzzers and other nymphs will shake and vibrate on there climb to the surface. The addition of a magic head will cause the fly to do this and may intice some strikes.
  16. I like some heavy metal, I guess there is all types of music I like some off. I realy like this fly looks like a great fish catching pattern
  17. Hard to see but it looks prety cool!!
  18. Great fly, had any luck with it?
  19. Awesome, would also be great for a riffle. I also taped a small bolt to my colapsable wadding staff.
