  1. im with EASTERN FLY articulation of huge flies & a 300gr. line i love 3d eyes with materials that really move so it looks alive. i like high water & nasty weather.
  2. i throw alot of bigflies for bass mostly on straight gamakatsu rubber worm hooks 1/0-4/0 i have used 4/0 rattlin murdich minnows successfully for brown trout i believe you cant go to big for browns more big fish are caught on faith than anything else
  3. your fly is a good one it will be a little heavy to cast cause all that leather will soak up water i watched a DAY5 video once where they formed a loop put the rabbit strip in it cut the leather away then spun a brush to wrap around the hook so you could try that with the yellow then bind down the olive on top with wire 2 other suggestions brown rabbit on top works good over yellow kinda looks like a walleye but i saved the best tip for last put some big 3d eyes on that thing pike like the eye
  4. i also have some of this stuff in a box since like forever your fly is the nicest 1 to ever be tied with this stuff DNA FROSTY has great shine but i hate the square cut ends i cant seem to do anything to un-even them to make a fly that doesnt look like a paint brush in your hand
  5. fish were kinda small but they were biting so i have no complaints. i will be revisiting this fly. it has a few problems. it tends to land on its back so it skitters on the 1st strip. i-balz should take care of that & give it a more pronouced jigging motion. the tails tend to wrap under the hook so if i tie it down on the rear it might not tangle as much. i think i will pull the strip over the wool head like on the sculpedo. i might even articulate this fly
  6. these are some #2 daiichi 1710s "trout" sized flies i also made
  7. tried this fly out this morning caught plenty of smallmouth bass on it 4 out of 10 i think
  8. theres a guy here in my town who sells a variety of steelhead flies with that material for the tails he has been using them since those balls first came out
  9. i saw a thing maybe on YOU TUBE about using fabric paint to make a soft head on flies like this then adding the eyes. did you do that to these flies? i think it would give your fly more walk the dog action
  10. i miss more fish with a floating line than i do a 25ft integrated sinker. i always see the bite with a floater way before i feel the fish my fly is gone the fish moved 4ft set the hook ... nothing short versi-tips give me the same problem feel a hit .. nothing but with a 25ft rio 300 the hits are solid & heavy mostly hooking themselves could be that im waiting until i feel the fish with the sinker instead of setting cause i see it or i think its the way the fish hit rather than the feel of the fly i fish big streamers not bugs but some are soft some are hard just like your bugs
  11. i havent posted a fly in a long time so here goes i wanted to tie some big white zoo cougars but my fly shop had no white deer hair or mallard flanks so i bought wool & magnum rabbit strips. "BIGFISH" WOOLHEAD ZONKORA HOOK - tiemco 8089 bassbug #2 THREAD - 210 denier waxed flymaster plus white TAIL - silver hula wrap doubled over HACKLE - U.V. pearl polar chenille palmered BODY - lg. pearl cactus chenille 2 layers WING - olive barred white magnum rabbit strip split in 2 near the end LEGS - tan barred rubber legs tied forward GILLS - red dubbing behind the legs to hide the tie in HEAD - white wool
  12. i use the RIO VERSI-TIP line everyday. it is a great line. i would suggest if you have a 9wt rod buy a 10wt VERSI-TIP. i have an 8wt line but use a 15' sink tip from a 7wt SCIENTIFIC ANGLERS MASTERY SHORTHEAD SPEYLINE on it most of the time. the spey tip has more grains so casts larger flies with a shorter stroke. the largest fly i have thrown is a 4/0 rattlin murdich minnow w/ a 6mm glass rattle in it. it is 6" or 7"s in length & 2 fingers wide.
  13. here in michigan summer stealhead eat anything. the locals around here use spawn, nightcrawlers, shrimp, crawfish, minnows, wax worms, wigglers plus lures, flies & jigs. i think sth see well into the U.V. spectrum. i fish alot at night when i started adding U.V. materials the takes seemed to be more aggresive.
  14. steelhead drift fisherman use a round float to hold bait up called a corkie. they come in 4 or 5 sizes & at leaset 50 colors. walleye fisherman have different shaped corks too.
  15. my friend made me a big fly case out of a plastic pistol box. he got the box somewhere for 6$. it has a strong double slide lock.
  16. i use 4 to 6 feathers concave style for all my matukas this really puts a solid dorsal fin on the flies i never strip the bottom part of the feathers on my matukas like others do
  17. take a few hex flies they will be moving by then most bonefish flies double as good carpers around here
  18. or put a loop on the floater & try some t-8 or t-14
  19. i have noticed any hook can roll over. lots of things cause roll such as how the fly is tied or how heavy the current is. some hooks such as the curved caddis always roll over. the addition of beads, cones, lead, epoxy or eyes can cause roll over. i think that flies tied in the round are the best way not to over think this.
  20. you would be surprised that i woud rather live on a different river because of the people runs i get here. the fall snaggers are the worst but late season steelheaders are much different in my book USGS says 2590 & 55 degrees thats good fishing water
  21. i live in brethren i fish the river 5-6 days a week below tippy to sawdust hole im on vacation now but the water was 4420 lastweek its still in the 3000s thats cranking high most people are finnishing off the spawning steelhead some fresh skamania have been showing up the last day i fished was the day the water was rising i got a 21" brown on an articulated hi-tie most of the guides were fishing trout with streamers & dry/wet flies but now that the water is so hi im sure its a streamer game for awhile
  22. ive tried sequince it breaks off eventually.
  23. but after adding all that to the head how does the fly sit in the water. does it flip on its side or all the way over? will the hook keel it? plenty of my flies are weighted at the front but i try to make sure they will track straight.
