  1. Poopdeck, I choose to take that as a compliment... I wish I were. The crap I would get away with these days...
  2. Am I the young lad? Poopdeck, I agree with you through and through. To clarify, the reason why I see it as an uneven comparison is that we were given some insight into trout fishing and its challenges. But bluegill fishing apparently had NO challenges, based on the fact that a bluegill was once caught easily. It was a false comparison. The real question should be... Is catching the hardest to catch trout harder than catching the hardest to catch bluegill?
  3. Good on you guys for not arguing, because you are comparing apples to wrenches.
  4. I dont nymph nor steelhead fish, but I have seen 10ft rods designated as rods for tbose kinds of fishing. Why? What is the advantage?
  5. They are cutting their throat despite their gills, so to speak.
  6. Uh...oh....!!! Now you have done it...
  7. ... About the storage... I have done this before while travelling: Cheap laptop briefcase (or backpack if you are also going fishing) from Marshalls, if you don't have an old one already. Two big Plano type boxes. One with only one compartment, for the bulky tying materials. One with multiple compartments for the flies/jigs, most tools and small packaged materials. Use a foam block as a caddy, from the fake flower section at Michael's. Fill the rest of the backpack with your reel, fishing accesories and your favorite fishing hat. The Plano boxes do, or at last used to, have some ridges on the top cover that make them stackable, although not securely. I hope it helps.
  8. I disagree with Poopdeck, but only to a point. By all means work towards that steady figure that will make you happy, but I don't see why you could not bring the travellers kit, rod, reel and all if that is going to help you disconnect when you need to. And everyone needs to, sometimes. Better go fishing than drinking yourself silly every weekend... Also, I don't know if you are aware, but, fly tying in college... TOTAL chick magnet...!
  9. I ran into MaxCatch flyfishing products on Amazon one time. They have some nice looking, inexpensive rods, but then there is always the fear of the unknown... Jamal, is this a well regarded brand in that part of the world?
  10. OK then, I guess... As long as it wasn't light pink/salmon, like the ones I wear... I am landlocked for a while. I am going through withdrawal and the thought of that bass on a popper is giving me the shivers. Maaaan...!
  11. Yep! Babies are just about the only thing that doesn't come in the water... For now... I used to go saltwater fly fishing in my kayak mostly in the spring, which is when I am free to take the one and a half hour trek north to Fort Pierce. There are not many great kayaking spots in my area. But I have not in a while now. It seems that my plans always coincide with an algae bloom and a the fish kills that ensue.
  12. That must have been some take! As much as I like most any type of fishing, can't think of many things better than a bass like that jumping on a bug that you tied yourself. On a side note, I hope you gave Caloosa heck for wearing fancy saltwater, buttoned up, fishing shirts to a camo t-shirt event. That Caterpillar hat is not fooling anyone...! Etiquette, Caloosa, etiquette... :)
  13. Nice!. Looks like those three left will work just as well anywhere else. What kind of synthetic is that on the first photo?
  14. Wathever he told you about us... It was not me who grabbed and ran with Lefty Kreh's hat at the fly fishing show. No, sir... Not me... Welcome to the forum!
  15. It did not look to me like one of the anodized boutique reels, but it does look cool. Off I go to find out about DIY marbleing... Thanks!
  16. I like top water fishing, so anything from a subtle Gurgler to a ruckus Banger.
  17. Great looking rod, as usual. What reel is that? I am curious about the color.
  18. I forgot. I have also used in the past those pins that come with new shirts and hold them, the shirts, folded to a piece of cardboard. I thought they worked well.
  19. I use a piece of 40lb mono burnt, dipped in black nail polish, then in UV resin. Been thinking about mixing the polish, or paint, with the resin, but maybe next time... Anyone tried? The 17lb may work with an extra dip to build it up.
  20. I found this old post in this thread: ... And all of that is nothing, I mean NOTHING, compared to the dirty looks you will get from the locals if they see you fishing in their waters...
  21. I tie variations on a smaller gurgler or a hot lips that look pretty terrestrial and do well with bass. Others, honestly, look completely extraterrestrial. Can't speak to smaller flies like ants. Don't use them for fear I will only catch bluegills.
  22. Sounds pretty similar to my coffe, only with tea. Actually, the literature that came with this contraption said you could make tea as well, but I never tried. That is another rea$$on. I can't stand robbery at smile point.
  23. Oh, you can warm it up if you want. I just choose not to... Got to check this Sun Tea thing. Sounds soooo keeeewl, maaan...!
  24. I know nothing about the Sun Tea movement. If you believe the marketing, they will tell you it cuts acidity by 65%. But who knows... What I like is that It comes out very smooth, super strong, like espresso, and when I mix it with milk is just like what I used to have back home, only cold, which is a plus in South Florida.
