  4. Great photo. Great shot of the birds.
  5. As Floyd said Dave's hopper uses polypropylene yarn because it floats. You can also get this yarn from Bonnie Craft cord.Just cut a section and comb it out to untangle it.You can find it in several colors at Hobby Lobby or craft stores. Chenille could work but it absorbs water so the fly may not float as well. You can also substitute another color poly yarn if you have any on hand.
  6. Thanks everyone for the nice comments.
  7. Thanks. Yea i took a lot of shots and got maybe 4 really good ones out of all them.Hardest part for me was getting the focus point on something that small that is moving.
  8. Thank You. More like just a lucky shot though.
  9. Goofing off trying my hand at macro. Caught this carpenter bee buzzing around my deck.
  10. Yes a little too close for comfort with the kids running around but not a wasted snake. We skinned him and my son in law grilled it.
  11. I came across this rattler while mowing my yard. First one i have seen here.Usually see copperheads and garter snakes. When i was young we would get snakes out of peoples attics using a pvc pipe capped on one end.Place an egg in it for bait.Snakes dont have reverse. They would crawl in to get the egg and they dont have enough room in the pipe to turn around so there they were.We just picked up the pipe and relocated them.
  12. I have used hen hackle or pheasant. http://www.featheremporium.com/Fly-Tying-Feathers/soft-hackle.html
  13. Joann.com Kreinik.com Try Hobby Lobby and amazon,
  14. Sounds like you had a really great time and that is a beautiful little trout.
  15. I like the feather claws on yours denduke. They have a better profile than mine.I think i will try those on my next ties.
  16. This one has caught a few bass for me.
  17. I have used eagle claw cricket hooks on poppers to be able to pull them free easily. The hooks are long and very thin wire,They will bend like a crappie hook if you hang them but strong enough to land a fish. Eagle claw also has an aberdeen hook in gold that is thin and bends easy.Have not used them for poppers but they would work.
  18. Couple of Hatch charts for N.Georgia. http://www.ngatu692.com/hatch_chart/all_year.htm http://goldrushtu.org/ga-hatch-chart/#Mar
  19. Glad i could help or at least hope i did. Here are a few more tips for you. The Sweet spot for the canon 18-55mm kit lens is F5.6 at 35mm.This is the aperture where your lens is going to have its maximum sharpness.Anything above F11 will start to introduce distortion. F16 or higher is great for a landscape photo. For macro using this aperture will need a lot more light. Also try and keep the ISO as low as possible. Higher ISO is good to add more light in the photo but it also introduces noise in the photo. If i were using your equipment i would lower the aperture to F5.6,adjust the lens somewhere around 35mm and lower the ISO to 100 or 200. Then i would add more lighting if needed to compensate for the lower ISO. This should produce the sharpest images with your lens.
  20. The T5 is a great camera as is the kit lens. You just need to keep more distance to focus the subject than with a macro lens. Sounds like you have got it figured out. Something that may help you is to use focus points rather than moving the fly longer and shorter distances from the lens. With the lens set to auto focus.... Set the camera to any of the manual settings. AV,TV,P or M. You may need to view through the eye piece for this. Press and release the AF point selection button. As you press this button it will light up all the focus points or a single point. Use the dial to move through the individual focus points and select the focus point for the shot you want then press the Set button. Do this for all the individual shots and you will not have to move the camera or the fly. You can also purchase a wireless remote ( RC-6 Wireless Remote) that will work with the T5. You will not need to use the timer. These can be found for just a few dollars on ebay or amazon.
  21. I have focus stacked a few times. I use photoshop CS6 also.Makes the processing easy. Use a really good tripod. A good macro lens helps. I shoot with a canon 6D and a 50mm 1.8 lens. I use the focus points of the camera sensor to set my focus points. I never touch the lens to adjust focus for the shot. Set the center focus and take the shot then carefully move the focus point to the area you want to capture for each shot. I use back button focus (can be set with functions) and also use a remote shutter release to prevent camera shake. Load them into photoshop on separate layers. Select all the layers. Use Edit-Auto Align then Auto Blend. The edges are always a little out of focus when completed so you crop the photo to cut these areas out.
