20 Denier Thread Been tying with a new thread for me, Semperfli #24/0, 20 Denier thread. Perfect for tying these size #22 midges.
-
It is called a Reverse Parachute designed by the late Roy Christie. It is designed to fool the pickiest fish in the UK in their brooks and streams. Perfect for the fast moving pocket water of Colorado. The shank of the fly is submerged in the water along with your tippet. You only place floatant on the parachute and not on your tippet. I'll also fish this on my local stillwaters. Definitely a fly the fish are not familiar with but better mimics the emergence of a midge when they are most vulnerable. I'll tie them down to a #22 and as large as a #14 in a multiple of abdomen colors and parachute hackle. The abdomen of this fly is the stem of a CDL feather. It comes with it's own ribbing and tapers naturally. You must coat the thread base with CA and then coat with Resin to add strength.

I use a UV Dental Curing Light that I got for $30 to benchcure my scuds. I then place them in a used denture curing oven that I found used. I found that the hand held light didn't completely cure the resin but left a slight film that would cloud after a bit. Placing the scuds in the UV oven for 2 to 3 minutes completely cured the resin with no leftover film to cloud. My application of resin is rather thick and hard to cure completely. This is especially true on things like minnow heads. Using the oven allows me to continue tying while while my flies cure. You might also check how your wife hardens her nail polish. Her nail polish oven works nicely on your flies and is very economical.

It looks involved but fairly easy tie. Learned from a DVD by Herman.

Greg's Emerger - In a size #18
-
He is doing well. He is taking care of his parents that are both over a hundred.
-
Yes, been there a couple times You are right, talk about a candy store. I could easily spend a couple hundred without blinking. I miss when he would have demos during the winter. It was also a time to see friends. I've known Garcia for a long time. He is what I call a "gentleman's, gentleman". Fortunately, I still communicate with him.
-
Yes, he was forced in to retirement. Yes, I met Garcia when he was still at Charlies.
-
Unfortunately, Garcia didn't retire but someone wanted his job. He built most of what the tying section has become.

The advantage of the JS is that you can adjust the distance of the cradle to the head of the vise. It may not mean much now but there will be times when you need to hang not only bobbins but also materials from the holder. Also, if your bobbin is that far from the head of the vise you will be constantly shortening the amount of thread you will have out of the tip of the bobbin. The least amount of thread that you have will save you time and increase you efficiency.
-
Buy the JS. Buy a 36" SS 1/8" rod(?) and cut it to the length you want. Strip off the actual "cradle" and put it on your new rod. OR Bend it to shape. https://www.fishusa.com/Regal-Bobbin-Holder?quantity=1&L-Model1=8135&msclkid=eb24ba756b4418715d41db2aee9905a1&utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=ECI - Google Shopping - Fishing Accessories %2Fcombos%2F Fly Fishing%2FWading&utm_term=4584551177480351&utm_content=All Products
