  1. Ive never caught one here. Closest thing Ive seen was a mudfish... Guys catch them all the time up north a bit in broward county. They find shallow grass beds or any kind of shallow area where the fish can lay low and ambush his prey, and throw white topwater frogs at them. Fly guys use gurglers for them... thats really all I know
  2. Reds are gonna clobber that thing. Nice work
  3. How is everyones flies coming along? I'd share some pics but they are in the mail plus I'm pretty sure everyone knows what a Schminnow looks like
  4. Using those flies for the snook swap?
  5. The big fiery ball in the sky
  6. Cool man. I haven't been to the keys in over a while. Just too many freaking tourists and its basically a tourist trap now. Much rather go somewhere else, like Naples which Im headed to in an hour Btw, you did well just to hook a bone in the keys on foot. Consider yourself lucky
  7. Very nice and generous of you Norm
  8. Anyways, I think that some of our fellow swappers are a bit confused. Snook will eat anything from a #4-1/0 baitfish pattern. White, black n purple, and tan are extremely popular colors. If you do a blurple one I would say to definitely throw a weed guard on it, since that color will almost always be used in the backcountry aka snag city. Don't be shy to ask any questions if you have any Keep on tying!
  9. Finished mine a couple days ago! Actually came out pretty nice.. Going in the mail this week. Share some pics fellow swappers of your ties!
  10. Interesting, I have never used a caddy nor found a need for one. That's just me though..
  11. Were you on foot or with a guide?
  12. You're in the keys right? Those should get gobbled up regardless
  13. E, your flies are really good. I'm sure others on here will critique you ore but seriously you're off to a great start
  14. Cool stuff man. I have caught a red on fly but it was about 6 inches lol.. One day hopefully I will seriously chase some in the low country..
  15. Silly Dave! No but seriously a redfish here would gobble that fly up any day all day. Nice work!
  16. Nice fly M.. I am guessing that is for stripers?
  17. Music and a nice cold lemonade when you're tying a lot of flies Also practice practice practice!
  18. Really cool colors on him
  19. With what fish? I know a guy who uses those for snook here
  20. Bring flies in the #4, #2, and 1/0 range White is my favorite to start with, but I always bring a healthy dose of tan and black/purple flies as well. If its not going to be fished on the beach it gets a weed guard. Gurglers, schminnows, clousers, decievers, ep baitfish flies, and shrimp flies. Should get you set, probably only end up using a couple fly patterns but its good to have extra
  21. I have only ordered Congo hair, h20 baitfish flash, and some eyes So far really love it and highly recommend to anyone! Absolutely no need for EP
  22. It is fun time indeed Also try ding darling for snook reds and tarpon, just go from those little bridge things to little bridge things until you come across some fish Enjoy the trip and share the pics!
  23. I'm actually going there again next weekend Stop by Norman Ziegler fly shop, he'll get you updated and fill you in Wake up early and hit the beaches, popular ones are Bowmans beach and the Rocks. Both have good fishing and many miles of shallow clear water (if conditions are good). I say go early is to avoid the tourists. Around 9-10 when it's getting busy, head back and tie some flies, take a nap, lunch, whatever. Then a couple hours before sunset start heading back out, this is when I like to go to blind pass, and fish there. In reality you could use only 1 fly pattern, the schminnow. But it's a great idea to have some other patterns in case it's not working out or whatever Hope this helps
