  1. Nice, Moshup. Getting our for the last of the Fall run?
  2. One lone October Caddis from Sunday's walk along the stream with my dog.
  3. Couple of what I use as dragonfly nymphs in size 6, inspired by McFly's recent video on the carp fly and my need for more panfish bugs.
  4. Any fly fishers/tiers in western/central Massachusetts? Feel free to drop by for our monthly November meeting this coming Monday, 11/15. We meet in Ludlow, MA. See the Western Massachusetts Fly Fishermen web site for more info, or feel free to contact me through this board.
  5. Great looking flies. Do you have a recipe, name? The subtle blending of colors on the yellow fly are outstanding.
  6. Very nice, again. The grizzly and squirrel tail look like they'll blend together nicely when wet.
  7. I like them - E-Z-P-Z. I tie jigs for my neighbor, who only spin fishes. He likes them in these small sizes (1/16 and 32). It never occurred to me until this year that I could tie these on the end of my 7wt, amazing how effective these simple little jigs can be. I seldom put eyes on them, so I'm even lazier that you - LOL.
  8. I like the effect given by the embossed tinsel wrapped over the yarn body. Very nice.
  9. Thanks for the info, both @tctrout and @flytire. If I was a bit closer, I would probably make an effort to go. I'd like to see Joe Messenger tie one of his dad's frogs, live.
  10. Skeet, I just dug mine out. It's a 6.5 footer, lettering is mostly worn off, but pretty sure it was a 6wt, at least that's what I always used on it. Also pretty sure it's solid fiberglass, yellow (not painted) with brown wraps, and a black line painted above and below each set of wraps. If I remember, it was a nice dry fly rod, but casting fell apart after 30 feet or so. I remember the old solid glass baitcasters, mine were always a pearly white. I'm sure my Dad still them down in the basement somewhere. Sorry to highjack the thread @Steeldrifter, those rods are pretty, they almost seem to glow.
  11. I think I have one of those. Do you recall if yours is solid fiberglass? I think mine is, but I don't remember, I'll have to dig it out and take a look.
  12. Nice video, as always. I tie something similar, on a curved hook, works well for panfish, I have never tried to target carp. They are indeed quick and simple.
  13. I know what you mean, last time I was on the stream I was only able to hook up after I switched over to swinging wets/small streamers. In our area, I don't think its a case of low water temps affecting their feeding habits yet, as much as it is a change in the bugs present in the water, mainly as you pointed out, small ones. I think a dead drift is overemphasized. A little movement seems to get their attention, particularly the smaller the fly. All those little bits flowing downstream, I want my fly to move against or counter to the current a little. Leonard Wright writes about this in reference to fishing dries in 'Trout Maverick', I'm sure others have also. On the other hand, fishing little streamers is great fun, especially in the case you described, when the trout slashes at the surface as it tries to hit a barely sunken fly skittering just below the riffles. Enjoy it until the real cold weather comes along.
  14. Very nice. I'm really partial to those honey/amber/yellow colored blanks.
  15. That's a nice one, Scott, love those colors, must look great when its wet.
  16. Came home for lunch, got a nice surprise in the mailbox. Really some great flies, I think I'm a decent tier, but you guys keep me humbled. Thanks for the flies, and thank you Kim for the gifts and another great swap.
  17. Believe me, I wish I was at the bench instead of bogged down at work. I struggle just to meet the swap deadlines. And I certainly appreciate all the ties posted, even if I don't post as often as some. I also appreciate all the comments/questions/observations other members post as well, even if I don't always make a comment.
  18. I'm more or less the same way, and I do have that same habit @DFoster mentioned of seeing a fly I like and tying up a few of them to try out. I also have a bad habit of giving flies away to those I fish with (family mostly, who don't tie, so I never get anything in return) and those I meet on the river. It a bonus when I meet a fellow fly fisherman who also ties and we do an impromptu fly swap on the river. More for the pit.
  19. I do a half -assed job of keeping my flies organized during the season, it's like a little mosh-pit in my fly boxes sometimes. But I do get them back in some semblance of order over the winter, as well as cutting down on the variety of patterns a little bit every year.
  20. x2. As someone who knows less than nothing about classic salmon flies, it is really neat to see two of the same flies tied by two different tiers side by side like that.
  21. Are you sure it's not a bunch of barbs from a feather?
  22. Maybe, if it was closer. I do hope to get to the Marlboro show, though.
