  1. Finally got out to scratch that itch. Beautiful day on the Chauga in SC. Some nice Rainbows, but no pictures as I was wet wading. BB, this is the place I mentioned.
  2. Brilliant hack. In the process of "designing" a new tying desk, this is a great addition. Picked up an old school replacement at Harbor Freight with a chuck key. Will fit the aesthetics I'm currently playing with. https://www.harborfreight.com/1-2-half-inch-jacobs-keyed-chuck-45731.html
  3. Great set of Flies received today! Darrell, thanks for hosting and check your PM.
  4. Yeah, smooth- Still waiting. 2 hours away February 7, 2021 In Transit, Arriving Late Your package will arrive later than expected, but is still on its way. It is currently in transit to the next facility. February 3, 2021, 9:03 pm Arrived at USPS Regional Facility COLUMBIA SC PROCESSING CENTER
  5. Latest variation. Went with a heavy wire jig hook, sz 2. 3X tungsten beads for keel (1/8"), longer tail, under tail using fibers. I remember what I don't like about working with those fuzzy fibers! Not swim tested yet.
  6. Thanks, after a swim I've trimmed it up quite a bit. I didn't have enough keel weight, using light "beading beads" on the prototype, but swims well and lands bottom down. Might have to try it with the $$ stuff as the poly yarn holds way too much water, but as a proof of concept I'm happy with it.
  7. Thanks @Sandan. So here's a go based on the video. Mustad R75S, 2XH/5XL, Sz 4, Yarn instead of EP (way cheaper to play around) . Still needs a trim. I can't tell whether it looks like an Ewok or the gremlin, before it got wet. Swim Test next.
  8. YW. Gave me something to noodle over and tie!
  9. Mike, I tied it like a Merkin Crab Just way bigger. I think it's done with EP fibers. Mine with Poly line Rather than x wrap it looked to be tied in on one side of the hook shaft. Brush, fan trim, repeat.
  10. I re-read the OP and can't figure out what the question is. How to tie it? What it is? As far as tying, is this close enough? It needs some tweaking, but I think it is on the correct path.
  11. From what I can see from the picture, it is tied the same way as a Merkin's crab, with an articulated shank. Don't no what or why, but the patterns of the material tie in look that way. EP Fiber, Wool, Rug Yarn?

  18. I got this notice from NC DNR. I don't have an aquarium, but thought I'd pass it along to those that might. Invasive Mussel Found in Pet Store Products in North Carolina: How You Can Help! The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission, along with wildlife agencies across the country, is urging pet and aquarium stores as well as aquarium owners to remove and safely dispose of any moss ball plant designed for aquariums, after invasive zebra mussels were discovered inside the products labeled as “Marimo Moss Ball Plant Grab & Go” and “Mini Mariom Moss Balls” In addition to being illegal to possess in North Carolina, zebra mussels clog pipelines used for water filtration, render beaches unusable, and damage boats. They also negatively impact aquatic ecosystems by harming native organisms. Zebra mussels have been confirmed in moss balls sold at retailers in North Carolina, including PetSmart. If you have purchased moss balls within the past month, please follow the instructions below about how to properly destroy them and clean your aquariums. Known packaging reads 'Marimo Moss Ball Plant Grab & Go' and 'Mini Marimo Moss Balls', but there are likely more brands that contain the mussels. An overabundance of caution is suggested if you've purchases ANY moss balls recently. Any aquarium owner who has purchased moss balls should dispose of it immediately and carefully by: Placing them in a plastic bag and freezing them overnight; or, Boiling them or soaking them overnight in a bleach solution (one cup bleach per gallon of water). After freezing or boiling, moss balls should be bagged and disposed of in the trash. Living moss balls or untreated water should not be disposed of in any location where they can reach sewage systems or streams or lakes. To treat your aquarium: Remove fish and apply the bleach solution and let it sit for at least one hour before disposing the water down the sink or toilet. Disinfect filters, gravels and structure as described above and dispose of water down the sink or toilet. Learn more by reading the Wildlife Commission's Frequently Asked Questions about Zebra Mussels flier.
  19. Ready for the mail today. Will send PM with tracking once they are sent. Just an FYI- I have had Flower bulbs from my late mother's garden sitting in the Columbia, SC mail center "in-transit" since Feb 3 for an arriving late date of Feb 7, so fingers crossed. That is, of course, a topic for another existing thread. And SENT!
