  2. Yikes! Out of my price range for sure-
  3. I got very luck with my tying chair. My previous chair wasn't comfortable. 5 years back my employer relocated and down sized our office and that meant that we had a few dozen top quality office chairs with no where to go. I spend eight hours in these on most days and I knew they were great chairs. The president sent out an email that if anyone wanted a chairs to take some home. I grabbed one and still use it.
  4. George- you can get a $10 UV light from Cabela's and I told they are even cheaper on Amazon. I had the $40 Loon Light and the only difference is that the cheap light uses 3 batteries instead of a single for the Loon and it takes a few seconds longer to cure the UV. Dean
  5. LL Bean also has Loon Top Ride desiccant at half off. $4.99 a bottle.
  6. My wife has lane centering and I hate it. I have that dumba$$ auto shut off in my Jeep- the dealer told me it's now mandatory on new vehicles because it's saves fuel. I wonder if the fuel I'm saving by having the engine shut off each time I stop will cover the cost of a new starter?
  7. You're not the only one VC- a 60 year old coworker of mine who is very tech savvy, inherited a brand 2023 Mercedes after his father in law passed. It's got all the new standard features and a few he can't guess at. The trouble is that it's still at his father in law's house because he can't figure out how to start it- even with the owners manual. Maybe it's got some type of facial recognition system like my iPhone? I told him to get to the dealership for some "training" before he accidently engages the antigravity warp converter and disappears forever. 😁

  10. Bingo sir- I’ve caught a hell of a lot of trout on flies with substituted materials. As Norm’s signature used to say “the trout care less than we do“. Or is I like to say- if you can’t find hair from the chin of a juvenile male Sasquatch, Deer will do. Substituting materials is what fly tying fishing flies is all about.
  11. Hi all, I’ve never used Aquel but I know people who say it’s their go to. Today I was in an LL Bean store and it looks to me like they are closing it out. From $7.95 to $1:99! I bought the last 2 off the shelf. Just thought I would put it out there for anyone who uses the stuff.
  12. Tying Ausable Ugly's last week jogged my memory about this simple fly that did well for me few years back. Eventually I lost the 2 examples I had and forgot about it . No official name for this pattern that I'm aware of so I call it my Mean Wolverine. No pretty, but they catch trout. DEAN’S MEAN VOLVERINE HOOK: #12 -#8 2XL STREAMER THREAD: #70 BLACK UNDER BODY: WIRE TAIL: WOLVERINE DARK GUARD HAIRS ABDOMEN/BODY: WOLVERINE UNDER COAT DUBBING HACKLE: SPUN WOLVERINE -WRAP FROM HEAD TO TAIL AND BRUSHED OUT. 13. Thanks Norm- I recognize the Law copy he made himself. I can't remember his name but he used to post on the old Frankenfly web page. A really talented guy-
  14. Really well done, nice work!
  15. I sent the photo Norm posted to him and said that many custom knife makers in the U.S and Canada use antlers to make their handles. I'm guessing that was a custom order for someone. A craftsman with that skill set could replace the handles on a set of tying tools and replicate the photo. There must be people right in the U.K. who can do this type of work- google search should get him where he needs to be
  16. No worries Mark- I have no idea who this person is, it could be King Charles for all I know. He probably saw a photo like the one Norm posted and thought "Ooooh shiny"! I can't blame him those are beautifully made by someone.
  17. I figured if anyone had seen these it would be you Norm. Do you know if someone offers those for sale or are they more of the one off made by a craftsman for their own use?
  18. If you're ok with it I'll tell him to reach out to you here. He was looking for pricing, including shipping to the U.K.
  19. Looks comfy Bruce. A chair isn't a "fun" purchase when compared to things like rods, reels and vises, but much like buying a new mattress your really glad you did afterwards.
  20. Looks like fun Bob, nice weather and fish! We're under a flood watch for a few days so as far as my river fishing goes it's not looking good🙄. Then again at least its not snow and I don't have to clear rain!
  21. Nice job on those walley wings!
  22. A guy reached out to me from the U.K asking if I knew the name of the U.S. company that manufactures/sells fly tying tools with bone handles. I did a google search and there were lots of bone handle knives but nothing came up for fly tying tools. The way his note is worded makes it sound like he's seen these tools somewhere. Perhaps they were available at one time and are now out of production? Anyway I though I would ask if anyone here knows of a source.
  23. Moshup, Cabela's offers a mayfly version for the same price- Here's how you use it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0JjX7MA0Lvc
  24. My wife got me an LLbean emerger II wading jacket for Christmas. It was on back order and arrived on Friday. Saturday was cold drizzle so I thought it’s the perfect day to try it out. I only had a couple of hours but I threw my net on, grabbed 2 boxes of nymphs, some tippet, tin shot and off I went. The jacket worked great and I managed to hook 2 with one in the net.
