  1. George wouldn't it be nice if the Greenie Mafia harassed those that litter, both large items and small instead of protesting the next deer hunt.
  2. We just bought a new mattress for the guest room and I stupidly threw the bag out! 😲😲 Well it wouldn't if in the hatch of my SUV anyway. This spot is stocked and heavily fished in the spring. To remove it will require dragging it up a steep 25' embankment but maybe some younger anglers with a pickup truck will do the right thing.

  4. I'm going to call the EPO's and see if there is anyone from the state who's tasked with removing large pieces of junk- it's not like someone left a beer can that I can carry out.
  5. Why dump your garbage at an ugly city land fill when you can drag it a hundred feet off the road through the woods and dump it in a beautiful little stream? Some people deserve Lyme disease.
  6. It looks like they ran the box over with a fork truck-
  7. Get several- you'll want one at all of your homes. 🙂
  8. I've been fighting the weight battle most of my life. From time to time past blood test have put me at borderline diabetic and being a heart patient I don't want to go there. Not eating for a week due to my recent appendicitis took 16lbs off (starvation works every time it's tried and I literally couldn't eat). I have decided to keep that ball rolling and since getting out of the hospital I have been focused on what and how much I'm eating. For me it's mostly about portion control. It's only been a few weeks but so far it's going well.
  9. I agree Mike- I really enjoy watching any of the old 60's -70's fly fishing/tying segments. They have a way of making feel like I'm 11 years old again. I love Curt Gowdy's "just the facts ma'am" style of reporting. Being from New England I'm not familiar with Mort.
  10. This popped up in my youtube feed and is collection of mostly fly fishing segments from the old "American Sportsman" TV show. I remember seeing some of these when I was a kid. I was fascinated with fly fishing and tying but I didn't know anyone who could teach me. It definitely brought back some Saturday morning memories for me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9B3mPuqYdUI&t=1564s
  11. This July has been a tough month. The weekend of the 4th I ended up in the hospital to have my appendix removed. Last Monday I started feeling lousy and tested positive for Covid (2nd time) which wasn't too bad if you don't mind wanting to just sleep 18 hours a day. It took me 4 days to get over it but Saturday morning I felt back to normal. Time to go have some fun with a fly rod. I thought about chasing trout but locally the trout fishing on streams has been slowing with most of the trout finding their summer hide outs from the skinny water. I went to a nearby spill over from a reservoir and targeted Bluegills and they didn't disappoint, truly great fun on a light fly rod. Nymphs, winged wets and soft hackles were all working. Later I tied on some streamers and got a couple of small Large mouths and a white perch. Not trophy Gills but I probably caught 30 fish and lost another 15 in less that 2 hours of fishing. Just fun and I needed that!
  12. Wow Steve that's really nice work!
  13. Thank you for that- I was certainly relieved with the diagnosis.
  14. Beautiful Sandan! This time of year you really got to work to find them in most rivers.
  15. I'm guessing that in that type of marriage it's really important to know which of the spoons you are....
  16. For me It's been a great small stream rod. It fits my casting style and I'm pretty accurate with it out to about 25' which is generally all I need. I believe it's fiberglass but I'm not certain. I've been using it less this year because I have my 7' 6" bamboo 3 weight. When I do take it out it feels instantly familiar, like a well worn pair of jeans. Bean just used paint that makes it look like it's spar varnished bamboo and brown for the thread wraps. From a distance it looks like the real thing. Last year I had a local bamboo rod maker pull over as I was packing up to ask who made my rod.
  17. Welcome to the site. I tie and fish with winged wets a lot. I've just accepted that after a fish or two they're not going to be pretty anymore. Just the reality of using quills. When they get real bad I cut them down and tie another one, all part of the fun.
  18. Thanks- the rod is an LL Bean Pocket water 7' 3" 3 weight. They did a pretty good job of making it look like bamboo, It's been my main trout rod for years. I still use it often even though I have the bamboo rod I built last year. Yes sir- for people with a passion for fishing time on the water will cure most anything!
  19. If Catfish tasted like Maine lobster it still wouldn't be worth potentially losing digits. As for bigfoot, I did read that some biologist conducting environmental DNA sampling of rivers in remote areas had some test results that were difficult to explain. Samples contained DNA that tested at 98% human. 2% doesn't sound like much but that is the difference between a human and a chimpanzee. The scientist in the article said that their test were not "proof" but that it caught their attention and further study was required to lock down a known explanation. I don't know if they ever found the reason for those results or not but it's interesting to think about.
  20. As I understand it, noodling requires the "angler" to root around neck deep in muddy pools while slipping their bare hands, blindly into submerged hiding places in the hope grabbing onto catfish instead of a snapping turtle or water snake- Yeah....I'll take my chances with a worm and a bobber thanks.
  21. Given the sad state of the justice system here in the U.S., with good behavior Larry could be out in time to go Unicorn hunting this fall-
  22. One of the great things about seafood is that it's so regional. So many different types of fish prepared differently really make it a fun adventure to eat at seafood places no matter what coast you're on. My wife and I love stone crab but we've never seen it offered in the Northeast and I also love blackened grouper which again is rare at best in New England restaurants or fish markets. On the other side I never cared for mid Atlantic blue crab and yet the locals go crazy for it. I've met people from Maryland that had a hard time with Maine Steamed clams. I think a lot of it is what you grow up on.
  23. I was able to get out on a local river on Friday for the first time since being released from the hospital. I decided to stay close to home because I wasn't quite sure how my body would react. After a few hours I did get tired but it worth it. This particular river is loaded with fall fish and river herring and I caught somewhere around 25 to 30 of them which was a lot of fun on a 3 weight and great for the spirit, nothing huge- 6" - 10" but lots of them. A cool reward for spending a little extra energy to see what was around the next bend was this spill over I found below. On Saturday morning I spent about 4 hours on my favorite trout river. The water was low but there were pools and runs to be found and I had the place to myself. Most anglers don't want to bother with the 8" native Brooks and wild Browns I guess. I lost my first 3 trout all of which were small before landing a nice Rainbow on a Stewarts Black Spider. I had to nap on Saturday afternoon as a result of lingering effects from surgery but I really felt pretty good overall. FRENCH 7-8-22 (2).MOV
  24. First dinner out since getting released from the hospital. I went with the steamahs, they didn't disappoint!
