Capt Bob LeMay 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2023 Here's a couple of freshwater poppers meant for our local peacock bass and other exotic species... Done up on Mustad 1/0 popper hooks - the heads are pre-shaped foam from Perfect Popper... each hook is carefully sharpened with a 4" mill bastard file and the barbs are mashed down... They're ready to go!

DFoster 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2023 I've been messing around with using longer than normal hackles on nymphs to add movement. Mixed results so far on the water but that also may have something to do with the dropping water temps. DarrellP 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2023 Rick, there was a streamer that had half Pheasant tail and half Peacock herl body. In the Carey Special family. I cannot find the name. Cool concept. Capt Bob and Norm knock it out of the park, as usual. DFoster, I often use longer hackles by accident, but if you look at some of the old soft hackles from back in the day, they had longer hackles than we use today. You are on to something.
