Rocco 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2011 My road kill days are long past and the neighborhood trapper is just a legend these days. But I find myself groping for the odd ground squirrel, beaver, woodchuck. etc pelt and coming up with scraps or empty-handed. Is there a clearing house that sells tanned, unripe, quality, hides from such critters? I once was great pals with a furrier (krzhnar) in Belgrade Yugoslavia, I'd bring him a bottle of Johnny Walker Red, we'd talk for an hour or so over some sips of his homemade raki, and I would leave a bit muddled but with bags full of odds and ends from his work. Great stuff but I rarely knew the english word for the animals it came from and I would not want to swear an oath there was no poaching involved. bluegill576 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2011 I have used coffins creek before and the only problem I have with them is the price of the shipping, but otherwise it is good.

JSzymczyk 0 Report post Posted July 11, 2011 If you can find a taxidermist near you, sometimes they will give away a treasure trove of furs. Some are small trimmings from animal mounts, and others are things laying around which people have abandoned.
bowfin47 0 Report post Posted July 11, 2011 Try Michael Hogue at Badger Creek Fly Tying - http://www.eflytyer.com/index.html Michael always has a good selection of furs, both on and off the hide. I find his site a little tough to navigate, so here is the "Materials" page that contains the furs: http://www.eflytyer.com/order_info/oi_bmaterial.html And here is the general materials page: http://www.eflytyer.com/order_info/order_info.html Bowfin47
