niveker 0 Report post Posted May 19, 2020 I haven't had time to hit any trout streams for the past few weeks, so the lake down the street is like a gift from God when I only have a little bit of time at the end of the day. From last night, as usual I started on top and tied on a small foam popper I received in the 'Fun with Foam Swap' earlier this year which landed one blue gill. A bunch of false hits convinced me they weren't serious about any surface flies, so I switched to a Clouser, and was able to land a small bass I lost that fly when I hooked the outboard on a docked pontoon boat, so switched to a royal coachman streamer and landed one yellow perch and a few more glue gill: As the sunlight faded, I got a number of strong strikes, but was not able to set the hook. I had somehow snapped the hook-point off. With that and the encroaching darkness, I decided to head back home.

mikechell 0 Report post Posted May 19, 2020 That one was actually the third. The first one was smaller ... The second one was about 8 to 10 feet and put up a huge fight that is quite a story. I think I typed it out on here once before. No pictures, and it kept the lure I caught it on. This one wouldn't close its eyes, so I couldn't get it by the neck. Here's today's catches. PS ... TIER, is that a chub? Fall fish?
Mark Knapp 0 Report post Posted May 19, 2020 Mike, any place you can catch a gator on a pole is pretty cool. So that's two on a fly and the big one on conventional? That last redbreast was really pretty, and a nice size. Are they spawning right now. Tiers fish was a Round Whitefish
Steeldrifter 0 Report post Posted May 19, 2020 Mike that last one's color was just on fire.
mikechell 0 Report post Posted May 20, 2020 Those Red Breast are beautiful. That one came out close, but the camera still doesn't do it justice. They're very pretty. When you come down, we'll try to catch some so you can see them in person !!!
