January Flies from the Vise

Floating Nymph - BWO (AK Best, var.)

On these the elk hair tail extends all the way forward as an underbody and folds back and forth at the thorax (under the dubbing), all to help it drift near the surface just prior to the bwo hatch... I see I messed up the head a little on this one cutting some strays off it before the head cement dried... I'll give it another coat.

Found a bag of dyed waterfowl feathers at the local craft store; kind of an orangish color on most of the feathers but some looked a bit like bronze mallard so I used that here; decent sub.

thread - Danville 6/0 black

tail - waterfowl flank dyed bronze(ish)

rib - oval tinsel gold

body - amber/red angora goat

hackle - hen brown

wing - waterfowl flank dyed bronze(ish)

hook point is bent on the still water pattern!

Up until everything froze over, the bass were hitting everything orange/pumpkin color, so I thought I'd give an orange bugger a try
