impossible to tell if the original hook is longer or not than the one i used, a keith fulsher thundercreek size 4. you can manipulate the size with some clever photo editing software

 

i used the smallest mylar piping i have

True, the photo can be altered. I did state that it "looks like".

However ...

Original: Hook gap is larger. Wire diameter appears larger/ Fly proportions to materials appears to be in favor of a 2 ... or even a 1/0 hook.

I like it. could not have you used the white for the cheeks and just sharpie colored it? but excellent job!

Under Body - gold tinsel

Over Body - gold piping

Throat/Belly - congo hair

Under Wing - congo hair

Over Wing - congo hair

Cheeks - congo hair

Gill band - red thread

Eyes - fingernail polish

Head - UV resin

I ran across this fly in one of my books, Flies for Trout, by Allen and Stewart. Their recipe called for "artifical hair", and a split bead eye. Not sure how they split the bead.

Not really happy with this first effort:

Dumbells back too far from eyes

Gill band too thick

Hook size/proportions wrong, but its all I had

Overall too busy of a tie

 

With macular degeneration I have trouble with tying these days - let alone take a picture

 

Open for critism
