  1. Hook: Mustad 3399 Thread: Pearsall's Gossamer Silk - Antique Gold Tail: Ruffed Grouse tail fibers Body: touch dubbed black mole skin Hackle: Hungarian Partridge
  2. Flies showed up today! Great ties everyone, Justin thanks for hosting
  3. That seems to work well in your hands Jay
  4. I'm your Huckleberry! Quite possibly a colored CDC & Elk
  5. Thanks for the comments, I think I have decided on a 3wt but need to rethink the length a bit more.
  6. I currently use a 8' 6" 7wt rod for salmon and trout. For grilse it's perfect, probably a bit light for salmon but a bit heavy and long for trout. When I fish brook trout it's generally small streams and brooks that don't require casting very far, the biggest brookie I have caught in these stream was 15", but normal is up to 10" with the odd one getting up to 12 or 13". I am considering a 6' 0" 3 wt and a 6' 6" 4wt, probably buying a pre built rod this time but I am interested in building a rod(s) in the future. Any suggestions or comments? Thanks, Jeff
  7. Another great tie! Interesting tie, I really like the thin body (and direction it was tied) as well as how you secured the hackle. This fly is unique without the legs
  8. I'm in! CDC Elk Hair Caddis
  9. Congratulations on the Lens and photo opportunity!
  10. Mine arrived today! Great ties everyone, thanks for hosting
  11. I'm in! Deer Hair & CDC Comparadun, probably olive.
  12. Really liking the 'mood' of the second and third capture, especially the second, very nice
  13. Nice ties and captures, well done
  14. Mine arrived today also, great ties everyone! Thanks for hosting
  15. I was okay with the 16 flies and the trout, but I have never tied a bass bug. Salmon and trout with deer hair and I was in
  16. I learned to whip finish with my hands and figured it was not worth trying a tool, but the Matarelli works very well, in fact I rarely whip finished by hand after trying it. I liked the Matarelli (and clones) but found a new favorite when I tried the Marc Petitjean whip finisher. The C&F whip finisher also looks interesting but I have not tried it.
  17. Another fine tie Dave, glad I ordered some raffine after seeing your ties last week
  18. Well done Dave, looks great! What material is used under the post/thorax?
  19. Nice set of videos, there are some flies I am going to try
  20. Jay I had become more familiar/comfortable with NX2 and found it rendered my Nikon raw files better than CS4. After you posted that pic I thought I would try CS4 and was pleasantly surprised, glad you posted your version.
  21. Hard for me to say that I'm saving money, but tying is a great hobby and it's a nice feeling catching a fish on a fly you have tied yourself.
