  1. Congrats, Lance.... Now if I could just hear from MY headhunter about a new job.... :wallbash:
  2. Thanks guys. I haven't been on here much lately, but things have been crazy here for the past few months. I'm hoping things will be better soon as I'm close to a new job... Closer to the White River.... It's not been a great birthday for sure. My wife, Cindy, took her 10 year old daughter to the ER yesterday (Monday) and found out she is diabetic. Tough for a 10 year old for sure. No insurance, so the bills will be haunting us for a long time as well. Luckily, we do get some discount since Cindy works at the hospital. But keep Amanda in your prayers as she is still having problems and still in the hospital for another night or two. Anyway... Thanks again and tight lines ya'll!!!!!
  3. Longears, Is your club an FFF club? The Federation of Fly Fishers has sources for supplies. Mustad donated hooks to FFF last year and our club received quite a few at a remarkably low price for use in our educational program. If you are an FFF sanctioned club, contact your council secretary. If not, consider affiliation with FFF. Also, if it is for getting folks into fly tying, many fly shops, distributors, and manufacturers will make you a deal to help you get them "hooked"... Pun intended.....

  5. QUOTE (Gary Madore @ Sep 11 2005, 11:39 AM) Start hanging around RBF and work up the will to buy and build yourself a Forecast kit. Then try another graphite and join a swap: That way, you won't be stuck with the rod you just built, someone else will. THEN, order a blank from Chris and build your own grass masterpiece. See... I have a plan.... Gary, Good plan and thanks for the idea. I've got part one down... Been hanging around you RBF guys for a while trying to get the nerve up to start.... And now the money.... Seeing some of the beauts... especially the bamboos... you and some of the others build makes me wonder if I should even start.... Since I've got the tools and some extra wood, I PROMISE myself I'm going to start my rod wrapping jig this week. Then look for a Forecast kit and go from there... Bob's (OSD) beginner's instructions pinned in the beginner's forum is a big help... Jeez... another passion... just what I need.....
  6. Both are good mags, but I seem to prefer AA just a bit. Of course, you could be like me and not show any preference... Subscribe to Fly Fisherman, American Angler, Field and Stream, Fly Tyer, Fly Rod & Reel, etc. etc. etc... By the way... the latest American Angler (Fall '05.) Check out Zach Matthews' Top 10 Signs The the River Is Too Crowded."
  7. Unless you Whip Finish by hand.....but there's a one handed method for that... not that easy, though....
  8. Proper spelling is Raffia... Cabela's has it... Is the JStockard "Web Wing" material raffia?
  9. Due to circumstances beyond my control, I've not been on the forum... Barely checking my email lately. Now among those "between jobs" I've spent a lot of time fighting depression and boredom, looking for gainful employment, tying flies, doing honey-dos, and very little fishing... Still on the "government subsidized fishing" program (unemployment) and not much out there knocking down my door to hire me... Sorry I missed the fly swap... My apologies to those in the swap. Anyway... good to be back...
  10. Thanks for the good thoughts and support guys. I know something will come up, but it's just having to wait that kills me...
  11. Well, we all have our good days and bad days... My good day was Saturday when I won a TFO 8 wt rod, Reddington reel, extra spool, two lines, and a rod case at our club's banquet. Today was the bad day. I was let go at work due to "differences in philosophy" with my bosses. They wanted something in 90 days that takes a year minimum. Oh well... guess I have time to try out that new rod now...

  15. QUOTE (bentflyrod @ Jun 16 2005, 07:40 AM) QUOTE I admit... when we took a "VFW" gig, we did "Silver Wings".... But they usually told us to cut out that rock shit.gif ... hysterical.gif Gotta love them old fellas! Too Late for Love - Def Leppard "Fellas" hell.... It was the ol' blue haired women that were bitchin'.....
  16. My Sharona - The Knack BFR, never on stage... The band was a "party" band doing mostly rock, southern rock, with some driving country mixed in. OK... I admit... when we took a "VFW" gig, we did "Silver Wings".... But they usually told us to cut out that rock ... I DID do that song for friends and guitar pulls when the song was popular...
  17. Unchain My Heart - Ray Charles (and others) Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald by Gordon Lightfoot The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down Of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee The lake, it is said, never gives up her dead When the skies of November turn gloomy. With a load of iron ore - 26,000 tons more Than the Edmund Fitzgerald weighed empty That good ship and true was a bone to be chewed When the gales of November came early The ship was the pride of the American side Coming back from some mill in Wisconson As the big freighters go it was bigger than most With a crew and the Captain well seasoned. Concluding some terms with a couple of steel firms When they left fully loaded for Cleveland And later that night when the ships bell rang Could it be the North Wind they'd been feeling. The wind in the wires made a tattletale sound And a wave broke over the railing And every man knew, as the Captain did, too, T'was the witch of November come stealing. The dawn came late and the breakfast had to wait When the gales of November came slashing When afternoon came it was freezing rain In the face of a hurricane West Wind When supper time came the old cook came on deck Saying fellows it's too rough to feed ya At 7PM a main hatchway caved in He said fellas it's been good to know ya. The Captain wired in he had water coming in And the good ship and crew was in peril And later that night when his lights went out of sight Came the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. Does anyone know where the love of God goes When the words turn the minutes to hours The searchers all say they'd have made Whitefish Bay If they'd fifteen more miles behind her. They might have split up or they might have capsized They may have broke deep and took water And all that remains is the faces and the names Of the wives and the sons and the daughters. Lake Huron rolls, Superior sings In the ruins of her ice water mansion Old Michigan steams like a young man's dreams, The islands and bays are for sportsmen. And farther below Lake Ontario Takes in what Lake Erie can send her And the iron boats go as the mariners all know With the gales of November remembered. In a musty old hall in Detroit they prayed In the Maritime Sailors' Cathedral The church bell chimed, 'til it rang 29 times For each man on the Edmund Fitzgerald. The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down Of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee Superior, they say, never gives up her dead When the gales of November come early. © 1976 Moose Music, Inc.
