  1. I swear we just had this topic, and I tried to find it with a search but that particular feature kinda sucks so not much help or luck and there were some awesome patterns listed in there but anyway. Here is the fly I posted for that same topic.... Gulley Worm Steve
  2. Congrats, now I want 3 dozen more before midnight.... ok not really but you'll get to the point that you'll do ignorant things like that!!! Steve
  3. Gpd, once you've tied one you'll have the patience for many more, I tied up about 2 or 3 dozen of them a couple years back and LOVED it but didn't have any more good horse mane (my personal choice for materials) now I have a box full headed my way from CA and I'm excited!!!!!!!! Paul, I told you that video was the bomb!! Steve
  4. Randy Flynn that's the one, I knew the name before I even saw the video, thanks a ton man, that helps soooooo much. Paul, I found that one on a google search and it's good but this one is just a it better in my opinion, shoot it's nearly a half an hour long about tying these type flies and is so easy to understand, but thanks for the effort I appreciate it. Steve
  5. Dang guys..... yall' need to take a chill pill, smoke break, or whatever it is that tickles your fancy.... It's a language, dead, alive, spoken, learned, what the heck ever yall'. Now come on and stop that before Will comes in here and puts you all in separate corners for a time out!!! Seriously that little banter made me laugh so loud my wife thought I was on one of those sites I'm not supposed to be on, like this one!!
  6. I used to have a book mark of a killer video for the Potts style woven hackle flies. It concentrated mostly on how the weave was made and how to get the propper length so that it was not necessary to trim the hair after the weaving process, it was made by an older gentlman. Anyone know what the heck I am talking abot and care to post a link for me please??? I have a very large supply of beautiful horse mane and would really like to try my hand these flies with that technique Steve
  7. I must admit that is pretty sweet, very nice tie man. Steve
  8. the bigger the mess made on the bottom when you twitch the quicker the carp will see it and then eat it, I forgot to mention that all of my flies are clouser style for the most part and very heavily weighted. I've also gone to the point of adding a short piece of hard mono pointing up (down when the hook is inverted) so that they will make a more pronounced trail in the mud. Very good point KHoss. Steve
  9. First up is my first decent gill of the year, almost 8". Next was my first decent bass of the year, really nice fat girl in March, the water was freezing but the big fish were eating so I went with it. Here is mt first bass from a weed mat (THANKS SO MUCH CREAM!!!). Here is a really nice green sunfish, this guy would go an easy 10" maybe closer to the 11 mark. Here is one of my carp pics, this is a fat boy from some boat docks that they get fed at and he was taken on a pellet fly.
  10. There was an SBS on here not all that long ago but I can't find it right now, it was with epoxy and looked pretty cool, shoot give a try and see if you can make it work. Steve
  11. Look in the database for the "Twisted Critter", I tie one similar but changed several of the materials and add a couple different things and took a couple out and call it the twisted dude but same fly more or less. Actually her it is, D 5's Twisted Critter and here is another from the data base, Bo Smith's Paper Bag Princess and one more, which looks much more like my twisted dude and is really a killer fly in and of itself, D 5's Hover Mover. Oh and I almost forgot.... this is one of my faves just because of the name and look, I think they are killer on fish too and stupid easy to tie so that's even better, Alex C's Billy Badass. I've also been having some interesting luck on something very similar to generic saltwater shrimp flies like the gotcha and such, here is one that looks a lot like what I've been tying lately,Siestafred's Estaz Eat Me. Hope those help ease the winter blues a bit just make sure and post pics of your carp when we have ice over and up here. All of those flies are in my box but nothing gets to see as much light as the old faithful headstand, and I mostly fishing that in a size 2, and I get those hooks from Allen Fly Fishing that's the only place I can find a scud hook that big and also the only place I get my #2 wet hooks for the mud buddy craws as well. Steve
  12. Give the scotch tape tent wing a try, it's my favorite caddis and is so easy to tie, I don't add the deer hair I just spin a small collar of hackle in front of the wing (3 turns for a #16 or smaller and 4-5 for larger). Here is a link to friend of mine that did a step-by on it, Scotch Tape Tentwing Caddis Steve
  13. Tie deep running craw and shad patterns then tie some shad patterns in lightly weighted and unweighted in olive and also white colors!! Steve
  14. Hearing this from most others on this site would make me say whatever but coming from this guy I will respect it and I since I have a few I will be heading to the desk soon for some R&D, thanks for setting the record straight. Steve
  15. A hen neck will not tie dry flies, it's to soft and will not allow the fly to float, what you are looking for is a dry fly or rooster neck or saddle (good luck on the saddle). The hen hackle is too soft and webby, also look into caddis flies as well since you have the Coq De Leon and the black rooster neck.
  16. If I may ask... where are yo getting your catgut??? I love these flies and think I may have some other practical uses for the gut in tying but cannot find it locally. Steve
  17. I'm more warm water when there is not any ice on and when the ice is too thick to lay a fly line into for some bass, carp, gar, or gills and crappie, then and only then do I go for the trout... and then I only go at night so it's kinda strange really. I think I may need help. Steve
  18. You should give that same technique a shot on Crane.... it's killer man, looks like a nice day all in all. Steve
  19. Yeah I think at that point the best thing you can do is to just chuckle and go home to have a brew.... wow that's awesome. Steve
  20. Dang man did h have a mouth full or what??? That was awesome, and one really nice looking gill. Steve
  21. Yeah I'm in the same boat but I do have a spot on the back porch... the eventual plan is to move the kids to the basement and then move our bedroom to their current room then redo our current room into my man cave, we'll see what time allows I reckon. Steve
  22. Yeah it's about 30yrs of dust that was heaped up on top of it. But not to fear I have it in a pile of parts (all numbered so I know how to put it back together) and I have been burning up sandpaper all day to get the stains out of it and make everything line up nice and neat again, this is stupid fun to do. Thanks for the kind words fellas. Steve
  23. I normally use Moscow Hide and Fur, I haven't used the others mentioned but have heard good things. Steve
  24. I am so excited that I found the desk of my dreams today. Would you believe I found it in my basement???? Yeah I did, you see my wife and I inherited our house from her grandparents, they had lived here since Harry built it in the late 50's. They had a really large collection of "stuff" and it has been a mess trying to get it all gone through and cleaned up but with two houses full to the max with stuff it's been a bit of a nightmare, not mention we have to have the whole family present to decide on the fate of some items.... Well I found this little jewel in the basement under a HUGE pile of newspapers from the late 70's and early 80's. I am working on taking it apart to clean it up and refinish it, I know it detracts from the actual value but I am more interested in the beauty that's hidden under the dust. I wasn't too sure as to how old it was but as I was taking the top and back off to get the roll top out I found a post card inside it that was post marked Dec. 28th 11:30am 1908, so I can saw it is at least 103yrs old and is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. No real reason to post this other than I just wanted to brag and I love old furniture. I'll probably do the same thing in a couple weeks as I progress on my restoration. Steve
  25. I'm normally a two whip, 4-5 turn kind of guy, glad to see I'm no the only anti glue guy out there. I will say that I do like to add a tiny (and I mean tiny) drop of super glue to anything I tie with mono thread. Steve
