Thank you George. I'm hoping the red quills come off next week so I can give that guy a shot.

Silver Doctor Variant

Hook: # 6 Curved Nymph

Thread: Red 8/0

Tail: Golden Pheasant Crest/Blue Hen

Tag: Gold Mylar Tinsel

But: Red Floss

Body: Silver Mylar Tinsel

Rib: Silver French Oval Tinsel

Hackle: Blue Hen/Guinea

Wings: Yellow, Blue, White and Brown Goose

The recipe called for teal feathers and turkey in the wings but I spent way too much time trying to get the teal to marry to the goose with no success. So I decided to go with white and brown goose. and work on marrying the teal feathers later.

I know you've probably seen many different classic salmon flies which quite often have teal flank feathers as part of the wing. However they are not part of the married main wing, just a strip about 8 to 10 fibers wide that forms a veil along the side of the married strips. Believe me, that is all you'd need do here.

Very nicely done by the way!!

Thanks!

I was following Bergman's recipe: https://www.flyanglersonline.com/features/oldflies/part470.php  and he has teal as part of the married wing so I was trying to match that.

Out of curiosity, what is the type of goose feather you're using? Wing primaries, or seconderies or something else?
