day5 0 Report post Posted October 9, 2009 I like my LAW Bench Vise almost as much as I like good beer. You sleep with your vise too?
FishAholic85 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2009 I tie on a Fly Master vise, its a Thompson A vise knock-off. It work good until recently it has started to slip a lot so I ordered a 720 from The Fly Shop (will be here sometime in Dec. hopefully :yahoo: ). And would like to get HMH Spartan or Standard for traveling and tying big Pike flies on.
cussfly16 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2009 Im happy to say after nearly twenty years of messing around with tying, I got my first really nice vise.... Dyna-King Professional. So far I love it, it fits my style of tying perfectly....... :jumpy: :jumpy:
Kevan J. Evans 0 Report post Posted November 3, 2009 dah 720 So the other vise thread is too long and too old in many cases. Many of us have changed/upgraded vises. There are some new vises out there etc. So here is a new thread with updated choices. Your chance to vote again and tell the world why you piece of steel is the best! Please no vise bashing! (Wicked we know that vice sucks! ) Be constructive I voted for HMH :yahoo: Great price and a great grip! The best tying clearance! Simple as it gets and well made I tie 6000+ flies a year on mine. For the average tier this could be the last vise you ever buy!!! Other vises I like/second and third are the Dyna King and the Regal.
rich5665 0 Report post Posted November 3, 2009 Just Simply Tools Rotating Spring Vise. When I finally feel that my tying has reached a level that I comfortable with, then I'll upgrade as funds allow.

harleyhunter 0 Report post Posted November 4, 2009 I have a Dyna- King barricuda indexer but just ordered the the ultimate indexer shaft to angle the vise up or down. That was the only feature that I felt in my opinion the Law vise had over Dyna- King... not anymore!!! -Sam
the saltydog 0 Report post Posted November 4, 2009 OK, OK, Who owns the Petitjean????? I love really tech cool stuff and want one badly, even as I harp all the time about my Dynaking. And reading back, I want to tie with Ibian, priorities I say. I think this is a bit humorous, as I also hang out on an Audiophile forum and this sounds like the endless debate on the best speakers. Cheers, Jeff Come on Jeff...... The speakers are simpler... Dunlavy labs SC-1 with an REL sub for Jazz and Grateful Dead (attached to tube gear) and old pre-ratshack Linaeum also with an REL for anything heavy (bi-amped/bi wired solid state). With Zoo speaker cables from out your way. I have 4 vises and I've been eyeing up that Petitjean vise... I'm going to take a closer look at the NJ show in a few weeks, I'm wondering if its heavy enough for me to tie on.
Pelhament 0 Report post Posted November 4, 2009 I have a DynaKing Kingfisher but I just ordered a Renzettie Reference 2000, can't wait!!!
kyflytyer 0 Report post Posted November 4, 2009 I've got a Griffin Montana Mongoose and a Dyna-King Barracuda. Both are great vises but I only use the rotary feature to veiw the other side of the hook. I think I'm going to ask my wife for a HMH Standard for Christmas because it suits my tying style better than a true rotary. I'll keep one of the others as a spare and give the other to my nephew, who is due back from Afghanistan in February.
smallieFanatic 0 Report post Posted November 5, 2009 Anvil Apex Fly tying vise. I am in love with it. It holds hooks like a champ, plus it has in line rotary and an adjustable head. Very nice vise.
Hellgrammite 0 Report post Posted November 7, 2009 I have a pair of old Thompson model As, and i truly love them. Well made, easy to use, and holds a hook...like a vise. Pretty much all i care about.
fatkins 0 Report post Posted November 7, 2009 I'm a newbie, currently in possession of a Regal with "C" clamp and a Dyna-King Sidewinder with extra midge jaw.
jimmyjoe 0 Report post Posted November 15, 2009 Nor-vise all the way. Have a regal and a Rensetti travler, but the Nor-vise is my go-to vise, can do so many things, nothing can wrap a hackle like the Nor-vise!
harleyhunter 0 Report post Posted November 23, 2009 I have a Dyna- King barricuda indexer but just ordered the the ultimate indexer shaft to angle the vise up or down. That was the only feature that I felt in my opinion the Law vise had over Dyna- King... not anymore!!! -Sam The ultimate indexer shaft makes tying flies easier and helps alot. The best $30 I have ever spent . -Sam
