Fly Tying

Recommended Posts

On the commute, did a little pond hopping the past few days. Was a tough go but did manage to catch a fish or two!

First pond fished a variant of the Betts Bream Getter made from Waspi's Foam Spider Tying Kit! Landed a Bluegill and caught but lost a Bass while bringing it to shore. 4lbs tippet broke but luckily did not lose the fishing fly! Second pond started fishing the Waspi Betts Bream Getter but without luck.

Then, noticed a ball of little fish, actually several of them, moving about in the pond. Thought they were minnows. Turned out to be fingerling catfish. Switched to a PMC Emerger.... smallest fishing fly in the fly box. Had a few follow it but none struck. Next, went with a Corq strike indicator and a Near Deere. Able to catch a Bullhead on the fly! Next time, will need to bring smaller size fishing flies for those little fingerling catfish! Fly Fishing and Pond Hopping...! #flyfishing

Lots of fun catching bass and bluegill using the Wapsi Foam Spider aka Betts Bream Getter. Lost count of the fish caught and released. Was steady action with the fish striking the fishing fly on a stop and go retrieve, later a long pull and pause, and then later a fast retrieve.

Largest Bass went ~14" but did lose a bigger one that threw the hook, and another that broke the line. Bummer... gotta tie more Wapsi Foam Spider.

Good thing the kits makes more than one fishing fly!

More fun fly fishing ponds on the commute. This round it's Crowley Park, Duck Creek, and Kroger Park - three parks that are "on the way to/from" work!

As Trout Stocking Season nears in our area, we decide to fish a pond for Bluegill to work on setting the hook when those scrappy stocker trout are striking lightly on our fishing fly. In this video, we demo the "Twitch"! When we are fishing without a strike indicator, we like to watch our line as it reacts to a fish lightly taking a fishing fly. Method works well on trout, and can be easily practiced fishing for little Bluegill! Do give the "Twitch" a try this Season! http://stockertroutfishing.com/do-give-the-twitch-a-try-this-season-flyfishing/'>How We Prepare for Trout Fishing... The Twitch! #flyfishing

Trout season is just around the corner with our neighbors to the North in Oklahoma getting a stocking of the Blue River in November. As we get lots of questions asking about fishing the Blue River, decided to post this video and provide details on an Infographic we published on our blog. Hope it helps for those interested in fishing the Blue this year! PS: Do stay till end for the bonus!

Posted info on the Blue River, OK. How about a year round Trout Fishery in Oklahoma to follow!

The Lower Illinois River is one of two year round trout fisheries in Oklahoma. It is stocked with Rainbow and Brown Trout by the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation (ODWC) as water conditions allow.

To help fishermen interested in fishing the Lower Illinois River, we created an infographic and posted a YouTube Video that steps through the information.

Also, we published a HubPages Article – Lower Illinois River River Trout Fishing, that adds lessons learned from past trips to the river.

Do check the infographic, video, and article in preparation for a trip to the Lower Illinois River!

Loved fishing here when I was in OKC.

Power generation can ruin a trip.

Tenkiller Dam schedule found at

When the siren goes off, get out!

Thanks Noahguide!

Schedule makes a difference, included details in our article as well....

Medicine Park is a nice place but I usually skip out to the refuge for lake fishing with no people around.

Hey dog face, are you a veterinarian that specializes in canine, facial cosmetic surgery or are you a self deprecating MD with peculiar facial characteristics. Just curious. smile.png
