SkinnyPole 0 Report post Posted July 30, 2014 Try a Bullet Head Hopper a quick cinch to tie. A Chernobyl Ant will work great. Skinny

FlaFly 0 Report post Posted July 30, 2014 If you're fishing for panfish (sounds like it with a 12 hook) I suggest the mini-hopper. Easy to tie and supposed to be dynamite for bluegills. I've not tried one yet. Also look at http://hopperfishing.wordpress.com Hopper Fishing Blog. They have lots of SBS patterns. Finally, there are lots of variations on Fishy's Hopper that could be tied small.

FlaFly 0 Report post Posted July 30, 2014 AGN that's the mini-hopper I referred to. AZ originated it. and that's the only place you'll find instructions as far as I have found.
AZWoolybugger 0 Report post Posted July 30, 2014 Roman Moser's Balloon Caddis w/wo legs is a good one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1vyhZAxEgCs Chris Sandford's bullet http://www.chrissandford.com/why-do-they-bite-the-bullet Juan Ramirez's Hopper Juan http://hopperjuan.blogspot.com/ Charlie Craven's Charlie Boy Hopper http://www.charliesflyboxinc.com/flybox/details.cfm?parentID=

Jaydub 0 Report post Posted July 31, 2014 The Letort hopper is simple and works well in those sizes.
SILKHDH 0 Report post Posted July 31, 2014 I second the Letort hopper and the Mini Hopper. Both work well for me. And yes the mini hopper is great on blue gills. My favorite is tan with red on the rear legs. Like this little guy.
phg 0 Report post Posted July 31, 2014 A stimulator also makes a pretty good hopper. Legs are optional.
bighornbuster 0 Report post Posted August 1, 2014 I am with flytire--Joe's or a Dave's Hopper. They ride lower in the surface folm which seems to make them work well.
FlaFly 0 Report post Posted August 1, 2014 If that's what it takes, my mini hopper ought to clean up! It barely floated.
phg 0 Report post Posted August 2, 2014 I tied up a couple of mini-hoppers a week ago, when that link was posted. Neat little fly, it should work well for bream, and yes, it barely floats. I think the "problem" is that the dubbing body tends to wick up water. I had to add dry fly floatant to keep on the surface.
1hook 0 Report post Posted August 2, 2014 Charlie boy hopper transfers decent to a smaller hook.
