zip 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2018 I'm sure it's come up many a time, however, I can't find a good link. Over the years I have put a lot of money into buying tapered leaders. That ends now.Anyone have a good technique or tip on how to do it? I'm not looking to make furled nylons.Just mono or fluro. Thanks in advance!
-Petter- 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2018 Hi I use fluorocarbon for the salty element. A simple one that works well in wind and big flies. 12 feet. 60% 210 cm 0,50 (80inch) 20% 70 cm 0.35 (27inch) 20% 70 cm 0.22 (27inch)

Sandan 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2018 leadercalc http://globalflyfisher.com/leadercalc Thanks! Only problem with knotted leaders is that the knots pick up any "snot" that's in the water
chugbug27 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2018 There are no perfect solutions... I started using tippet rings, which saves a lot of on stream headaches (and off stream pocket aches), but I'm concerned it may be affecting my presentation in calm water. Sandan 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2018 Thanks! Only problem with knotted leaders is that the knots pick up any "snot" that's in the water ok cant help that or just buy tapered leaders I actually do both. Knotted when the water is clean, tapered when there's "floating growth" As fishermen I think it behooves us to be adaptable for the situation at hand. vicente 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2018 I use about 2-3 ft of 20 lb hard mono 2-3 ft of 20lb maxima sometimes I do 3 ft12 lb floro or 10 lb floro. I usually just use those three sections for warm water, if I'm fishing for trout I usually add a additional tippet.
FlatsRoamer 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2018 Depends on what you're fishing for. Generally, I either use a perfection loop to perfection loop (always in freshwater) or a blood knot (usually in the salt) to connect.

Generally 6-7' for wet and heavy and up to 12' for tiny or dry. A dab of glue might ease the knot picking up scum.
