  1. I tried my hand at mouse patterns a couple of months ago.
  2. I tied the crawdads. Recipe posted in this thread.
  3. Medicine Park is a nice place but I usually skip out to the refuge for lake fishing with no people around.
  4. Yeah, they are the reason I got into fly fishing. I was in Iraq and found a magazine called The Drake in a book exchange. Had an article on chasing redfish in GA, where I was stationed. A week after I got back I bought a rod and started practicing. I still haven't caught a red on the fly, but that won't last forever!

    Deer Season

OK Archery deer season started yesterday! My fiance and I will be leaving after work to go hunt Thursday and Friday. Looking to get my first deer with a bow. Missed two last year. Anybody else hunting this year?
  6. This was an exercise in production tying for me. Hopefully they are received well and get yall some fish. Bass have been hitting them hard here lately. Do trout even eat crawfish? They'll be on their way today. Hook - Size 6 gamakatsu b10s Weight - xs dumbbell, tied to ride hook point up Antennae - brown rubber jig skirt Eyes - 50# mono burned with lighter Thorax - olive wooly bugger chenille Claws - olive rabbit zonker Abdomen - olive estaz Carapace - olive rabbit zonker, uv epoxy shaped to a point
  7. Thanks you for the suggestions, guys. I'll look into them.
  8. This is the real answer to the problem. I've had the opportunity to attend tying events at several locations across the Country. None of them have ever provided "extra" lighting for any of the tiers. If someone attending one of the sessions is having a problem with lighting, show them the options available that THEY can buy and bring with them to the next session. Understood, but alot of these guys are brand new to fly fishing and tying. Some have never fished at all. Everything is provided from tying kits to materials. The only the participants have to pay for is their beer
  9. I'm working with Project Healing Waters and our venue for fly tying nights is not the best for light. I'm still young enough that I can see the thread, but some of the older guys are having difficulties. Last tying night I used my cell phone flashlight to help a guy tie a woolly bugger. I was thinking of picking up a few led lamps, the problem is that outlets are at a premium. Do you guys know of any decent battery operated ones? I'm going to make some backdrops, probably out of posterboard or something similar, to help them see a little better.
  10. My biggest bass was on a black popper with a chartreuse mop tail. Only other mops I've tied have been chartreuse beadheads with black estaz collars. Bass like them too!
  11. About 90% done with mine, some olive rabbit zonker crawdads.
  12. I'll second that, and Darrell ties some good flies!
  13. Great flies, but I LOVE that last one.
  14. I have some fleece-lined pants and a hoodie that I pretty much live in all winter here in OK. Hikes in the brush for winter fishing, yard work, and general around town wear. I'm happy with them.
  15. I am an ER nurse, my charity is face to face with the recipient. Having met many homeless people through work, I will not give money to panhandlers. I will also not give money to the red cross, during the aftermath of the tornado in 2013 they were sitting on trailers of food and not allowing others to provide meals for locals and volunteers.
