Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I am thankful for the wonderful insight and advice I read here every day!

There are a couple of pools on the Quinne that I can fish mostly from shore without too much cold water wading. Generally they hold a few Rainbows so If I can get out I am hoping to fish there. I figure I'll leave the natives alone to make more natives-

After today the temps look fairly reasonable here in Mass with highs in the upper forties for the rest of the week. More importantly the forecast isn't calling for much wind. I'm going to try an get out on the stream for a couple of hours over the holiday break. Not bad all things considered- I can remember clearing snow on more than one Thanksgiving. Sure the fishing is slow as the water temps drop but it's still great to get out for a while before the and long inevitable "arctic apocalypse" takes hold in a few weeks. 🙂

I've seen a few of the Lamborghini SUVs when I'm in Boston. George as long as we're in the land of make believe I'll take 2 of the Bentley fly fishing SUVs (his and hers). 😜

I have had my pair for about a year and thankfully the strap has not failed. That said I almost change the soles so I'm not putting any real stress on the straps. Do you change between the various soles often or fish in salt water? By the way JB Weld worked like magic so if you ever have the same issue I detailed above give it a try.

There is a wonderful old short on youtube, "Ted Williams and the Atlantic Salmon". At 13:14 it shows Ted tying a salmon fly on some type of old vise. Each time I watch this I wonder what type of vise he's using. Vises back then didn't have the price tags of today but this is Ted Williams and I'm sure he could afford the best if he chose to. According to the poster of the video it was filmed in 1973-1974. Thank you for the kind thought and it's certainly possible as we occasionally fish the same waters. I'll be the one smoking a cigar, wearing waders and a tilly hat- Oh wait....😄 Seriously though each time I meet a friendly fly angler in your neck of the woods I say "Kevin is that you"? Haven't got a "yes" yet.

Obviously the trend toward online shopping is moving forward and there will come a day when for some products on line may be the only option. It's a cold, impersonal process which is fine if I'm buying light bulbs, not so much if I'm looking for waders. For me time spent in a fly shop is often a learning experience that gets completely eliminated when buying online. Knowledgeable sales staff can offer insight and opinions and many times have presented me with a better option that I had not considered. The thought of Amazon drones one day callously dropping things at my front door is actually kind of sad.

I love fly fishing shows and almost never miss the local show in Marlboro MA. Yes the vendors do carry a lot of the same stuff and you usually won't save money on any of it but I'm not there looking for deals. I already know I can get a better deal buying on line What I'm looking for is to see in person whatever items that the few local fly shops in my area don't have hanging on the wall. As a rule I always prefer to examine products in person before I buy, especially when it comes to things like rods, reels, vises, clothing, gear, feathers and furs. My wife and daughters tell me they save a lot of money buying stuff online. That's great but the trade off is they deal with a constant stream returns and arriving items. Who knew that a a "small" from Taiwan isn't the same as a "small" from China which isn't the same as a "small" here in America? Or that the pink heels shown online are in reality "fuchsia" (whatever that is) and "fuchsia" just won't do. Anyway all this back and forth doesn't seem to bother them at all- BUT it would drive me nuts. Give me the instant gratification that comes from seeing, handling, trying on and in general knowing what I just purchased, even if it cost a little more.

I could use a billion dollars...🙂

I wish I had thought of coneheads- I like the slim profile look but getting it down into 4' of water without split shot isn't easy.

These guys are a little portly because I added some .015 lead and a med wire rib. I prefer not to use split shot on my line if I can help it.
