Ear issues again

Recommended Posts

Well finally had to give in and do it, made an apt with the ENT for next Thursday. I am NOT looking fwd to this 😞 Have dealt with Tinnitis the past 14 months and got use to it, but the past 6 weeks my ear has been so muffled, not sure if because when I had covid or what the reason.

I'm concerned about the ENT though...Last time I went they did that stupid microsuction on my ear and it gave me tinnitus so bad I still have it 14 months later. Have to do something though, can't keep living the way I have been for the past 6 weeks with this muffled ear issue (thinking it's fluid in middle ear). Got to the point now where I sleep most times in a chair because it gets so much worse when I lay down at night. Fingers crossed its something simple that they can clear up with meds and not have to do something that messes me up like the last time.

Best of luck Steve. Having dealt with tinnitus my whole life I've gotten so used to it I'm afraid I'd be lost if suddenly I didn''t hear bells and whistles all the time. I'm so used to it I don't really hear it anymore unless I think about it like now. Every other email I get is how to cure something, tinnitus being one of them. It always amazes how some guy in his kitchen developed a system to cure (insert your problem here) this with just some ingredients found only in his special recipe of ingredients. That are the secret was discovered on a remote tribe on a remote island and it will miracle cure whatever it is that's ailing you.

Oh no....sorry to hear that Steve. Best wishes that it's a simple fix this time, and not a "fix" that's worse than the original problem.

This is great news because this is the appointment where they fix it. Next Thursday your going to be a new man. I’m thrilled for you, good luck.

You really should never google things lol. I looked last night at how they drain fluid from the inner ear. If its not too bad they can use meds/nasal spray, but if its bad then they pierce your eardrum with a needle 😬

Forget it, cancel the appointment. I draw the line at eardrum piercings. Yep, some things shouldn’t be googled.

Keep us updated, I’m looking for some relief, I’ve had tinnitus for several years and it comes and goes in intensity. The last few weeks have been the worst I have ever experienced and really it’s enough to drive a person crazy. I’m thinking about hearing aids with some sort of aid for tinnitus. If only I had known how much quality hearing protection may have been beneficial after 30 years at GM and cutting fire wood maybe I would be dealing with this now. But such is life, so I have deal with it. But I really know what your talking about and I hope you find some relief.

Mike.

Good luck Steve.  Mine gets worse when I hear anything loud.  It's always the loudest noise in my ears.  So, the "sound therapy"?  Just makes it louder.  But I've had it since the 80's ... jet engines and flight line operations.  It's just background ... foreground? ... noise for me.

I hope yours has a physical reason, and they can fix it.

Mike there are many sound therapy vids for tinnitus on youtube and they do work for some people.  You may need to try a lot of them before (if) you find one that works for you but don't need to go anywhere and they are free so It's a good place to start.  I listen to them with headphones at work.   I wear hearing aids and wrote this post last year about the new Bose Hearing aids.  If you have hearing loss along with tinnitus as I do you might want to consider them.

At the time the retailed for $850 (financing available) for a pair and Bose will mail them to your door.  No doctors appointment needed.  They are controlled from an ap on your phone that works exactly like a stereo-  volume, balance, bass and treble. They even have a mute button for those of us who are married. 🙂.  10 months later and my pair are working fine.  They won't cure tinnitus but if you have hearing loss they will help you hear.

I hope this helps.

Well had my ENT appointment a few hours ago. Pretty much mostly good stuff thankfully and just one little bad thing. The issues I had been having with the left ear the past few months were mostly caused by wax build up. Which is weird because I had been at the ENT and had them cleaned just a year ago. I told her I couldn't have that microsuction cleaning bullshit they did last year because that is what gave me that horrible tinnitus for the past year. She was extremely nice and understanding (and pretty damn cute too 😁) so she took care of it manually, and then used the microsuction thing but turned it down to its lowest setting. Took about 15 mins and right now my ear is still somewhat irritated so everything sounds way too loud, but that should settle down in a day or two. But the muffled / fullness is now gone...and the REALLY good news. After she did her thing, my tinnitus I have had for the past year is now at least 75-85% better than it has been since I got it from that other doctor😃 She said that there were hairs that were against my ear drum probably from that other doctors microsuction he did and that may have been what was causing my bad tinnitus.

So the only "bad" thing was she said I had (already forgot the name of it) but some bone in my ear is overgrown and it is causing my ear canal to be smaller than it should be. So that's why I have so much issues with wax and other ear issues. She said they will just keep an eye on it and long as its not closing my ear canal at a fast rate then I should be good and not need surgery.

Like I said the ear is still real sensitive and sounds a tad odd at the moment, but my God I can't express how great it is to be able to hear "almost" silence for the first time in a year and not that roaring tinnitus! I still have it slightly, but no where near the level that it has been.

Glad to hear the news for you Steve, I told my wife today I need to make a appointment for a hearing specialist today, and that is a big step for me. Any kind help for my hearing would be great, and I’m taking Dfosters recommendations into consideration to be discussed with hearing specialist.
Thanks, Mike.

Mike, make the apt and go. I say that because I HATE docs, I almost cancelled this ENT one today, but I am so glad I did not. Not only did they take care of the muffeled ear, but I was shocked they took care of the tinnitus. I have dealt with that ringing for the past 13 months. I honestly came home, sat down in my bed room, listened to see what I heard...No kidding, I cried. I have not heard silence in 13 months. Yet now, I am hearing at least 80-90% silence. It's just amazing man.
