Christmas fly challenge

Recommended Posts

I was pleasantly surprised this morning when my prize from the turkey fly challenge walked in the door with the mail lady. I am super, super pleased. And Na, na, na to all you guys who didn't tie a fly.

Here's the fly I tied.

Here's what I won. Thank you very much Trout.

I'm keeping what I won, but I would like to pass the challenge on. Let's all tie flies related to the Christmas season. You can tie a Christmas ornament or glass ball, a menorah or dreidel or even something for New Years. You can tie Rudolph, anything you want as long as it is related and has a hook. We will vote on them anonymously and I will send a nice price. (like the one I got)

To start it off, I tied one. Here's Rudolph's nose. Since my fly (Rudolph's nose) is so good, 😁, I'm the admin. of this contest, and I had a head start, I'm going to disqualify myself from the running.

This contest runs through midnight, of the 5th of January. Thanks for starting a really nice thing Trouttramp. Ready, set, go!!!

That's pretty good. I really wasn't sure how to tie a Rudolph. But then again, I don't even know how to spell his name. I'll go fix it.

Great idea Mark,  still pretty sure that turkey you tied could try to fly away one day. Like Tim, I’m not sure my artistic ability can compete at this level.  I chose to go a little outside the box.    Here is my Festivus Fly.  Feel free to air your grievances regarding its lack of distracting tinsel.  IMG_1910.thumb.jpeg.312b7e215f4c513ddaa05a9f60c70faa.jpeg

Very good. I'll have to check with the judges but so far, I think you are winning this competition.

ALOT of lightly spun dyed bucktail

drops of uv glue sharpie colored

Semperfli micro chhenille.

Great job,  looks like a Douglas Fir or possibly a scotch pine.

Great ties and really impressive creativity from Rudolph’s nose, the Festivus pole and the Douglas fir. I want to get in but I’m having a difficult time coming up with something. Having no imagination is paralyzing at times.

Google is your friend, my friend.

You will know a good idea when you see one.
