I use an Anvil Apex rotary vise. Ahhh <img src="http://www.flytyingforum.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wub.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wub:" border="0" alt="wub.gif" />

Smalliefanatic How do you like the Anvil Apex? I am looking at upgrading from a kit vise and im really looking at that same vise. Any pro's/con's you wouldnt mind throwing out to me?

I think it's a good vise. I had one, upgraded it, but it was a fine vise. It's not a true rotary vise, but it does rotate to where you can see the other side of the flies. The jaws are grooved and it holds the hook well. For me, the stem is a bit short for a C clamp, but it's OK with the stand. I wish the stand had a larger footprint for bearing down on spinning deer hair.

 

It's a very good vise at a very good price. You can't go wrong.

Started out with a Thompson A, then moved on to a "Regal look alike"

Gorilla non true rotary and just purchased a Peak rotary with brass bolt

upgrades. Should be here in a few days.---John

I use a Danvise, and I love it, and it sure improved my tying being able to look at both sides. As they say to each his own ! Good tying to all, milo3

For the past 10 years I have used the Dyna-King Barracuda for commercial tying and it has performed very well. I have tied 10's of thousands of flies and its still going strong.

I use a DanVise, full rotary.. the only thing that is bad about it is when you put really small hooks in the paint chips off the inside of the tips and then you have to move your hooks back in to the jaws more to hold the hook.. The good thing is the replacement jaws are only ten dollars.. the vise only cost 75 dollar to buy also.
