I doubt if he is actually Military. Because the more I think about it I actually remember I had another dealings with him about 2 years ago where he did end up buying a glass 1wt custom rod from me and if memory serves correct he talked about being a college student etc etc.

He was actually an NCO in the NG and only served 2 years, from what sources have uncovered. Sounds like you had him during the college fraud round. Google him and you will find that this low life even went as far as to scam people, out of cash, with a story about his daughter having cancer and cannot afford surgery <<< was proven to be a false story as well.

Scott Martin reminds me of Charlie Wenzel, the star of the internet defrauders, who reached fame when he tried to defraud a buyer on pirate4x4.com. Now his name is apart of the Urban dictionary as in being "wenzeled"

He's enrolled in Orvis' Pro program.

 

He recently (4/20) posted that he just picked up an H2 rod outfit with Mirage reel at the Orvis booth at a FF festival. The kicker: He got $500 off with his Orvis Pro discount. This comes just three months after an Orvis hotdog sent him a new Superfine/BBS outfit (which he sold a month later). I know Orvis has a program for vets for a 10% discount. I just didn't know newtyer1 was a Pro. And hot damn, Orvis, I didn't know you were so generous! Maybe you folks could have honored that warranty on those breathables that leaked from day one!

 

Did you hear about the fellow from PHW that personally gave newtyer a fairly nice bamboo rod. Newtyer was so stoked with this generous gift that he posted it up for 900 clams just two months later. It was a thoughtful gift, doofus. If you can't accept the beauty of the gift, maybe just return it to the giver so they may have the joy of giving it to someone that will appreciate it.

 

And last holiday season, when the folks at PAFF were fundraising for him, even Santa delivered. Got some tackle and enough left over for a Beretta.

 

That's enough of my negative rant here, so I'll stop. I just don't get the entitlement of some people.

Gee, All of this makes wonder what i could get since i DO have cancer...Well at least did. The last PET scan flared on my entire right lung (what is left after lower lobe resection) but the Docs are pretty sure it was something else since there are no more solid masses or tumors evident.

But the truth is that the couple of things that i have been offered i had to find a way to turn down since i kept feeling like there are other people in even more trouble than i. The paper i worked for completely did me over (language in G) when they found out i had been going through chemo and had my brother helping me...my contract had rider that allows me to hire sub but i must inform them...they were told he would be helping i just didn't say why or for how long.

Most of my medical bills are covered and i am barely scraping by, but with the economy tanked thanks to Bush jr.(and pretty much EVERY politician that followed) there are many more people in worse shape.

I still am not sure on if i owe Steve for the rod he built me...He won't tell me and i was paying him before i found out i cancer and COMPLETELY lost track of what i paid/owed...hey chemo brain=about 1000 cases of beer. But i have to say, and ALWAYS will, that Steve built the coolest rod i have ever seen. Now i need to get a matching one in larger size than 6.6" 2wt. Whenever i get more income.

 

So the last 2 years have taught me that almost every-one we meet these days has a REALLY bad story, the giant symptom of "modern" society, and that i shouldn't let my own get me down...Why?

Well i just got to eat dinner in my own home and know that over 1 MILLION other Americans will not be able to say the same. So you must look for those blessings you have, NO MATTER HOW SMALL THEY BE, and try to find a way to help others. If they are just scammers then hopefully they will get something real bad to get even in the future and if i gave to them i will try to forgive in the knowledge that at least i tried to do so for good and at least i could. But do try to be observant of those who just don't seem to care...And i still that it is better to give to a scammer than ANY polotician...Lets be honest here, what is the difference other than the politician is too stupid to see that it might be wrong.

 

BTW, i have never been in the military because it is run by politicians...But i am more than ready to sign up for hunting politicians... although my capacity is diminished my will is still strong.

 

But anyone in the Pueblo Colorado area looking for some-one to take fishing...I would be very grateful to just get out there. I really can't go alone and gas prices have left me stuck to a couple of miles of the Arkansas River below the Pueblo res. Also ANYONE who knows how to tie classic salmon flies close to here, i would love any lesson you might be able to sit down and teach to me.

My best friend recently passed away from glioblastoma, a fast-moving cancer of the brain. I spent a lot of time with him during his illness and took him fishing. It was time well-spent and I pray that someone spends that kind of time with you. If I was closer I would take you fishing. I hope you find someone to do that or just sit and talk fishing with you. I know it means a lot to you.

It appears that a scammer, who goes by the name Newtyer1 has been making the rounds on various fly fishing forums, handing out a sob story about how he is a disabled veteran with a sick daughter, and people send him tying materials, rods, etc. He then turns around and sells them.

 

 

As the WFF forum was getting heated, people started coming in from Project Healing Waters and various east coast forums reporting the same type of thing. He apparently was contacting the vendors that support PHW, getting free gear (like 2 Orvis rods), and selling them.

 

 

So please be on the lookout for this guy, and don't fall for his scam.

 

 

 

Regarding Scott Martin claiming to be an Orvis Pro and getting Orvis equipment at discount, I wrote Tom Rosenbauer. Tom emailed me back that Orvis is aware of Scott Martin.

I also am a D.A.V. and this disgusts me, and dishonors all my brothers and sisters. I don't know if Scott Martin is the scammer's real name, but there is a Scott Martin who is a professional bass angler. He's the son of Roland Martin, a very well known bass pro, neither of which would be involved in scams.

Scott Martin, the pro angler, posts on a bass forum I frequent, but only posts links to "how to" type Youtube video's he's done. He's one of the Pro staffers for Okuma & has a guide service in Fl. I don't know if he does any fly fishing.

I'm posting this so folks here know there is a real Scott Martin, who should not be confused with the scammer, in case anyone should see posts on other sites.
