What does everyone do for work?

Recommended Posts

Telephone technicial for one of the larger phone companies, but have done a variety of jobs for said company since 1995. Being outside it gives me a chance to scout fishing spots both fresh and saltwater. Started tying before i started fly fishing. Not great at either but love both.

Before that, I was just a kid.

I like that, I'm still a kid, my work is school, chores, and working in our garden, not that I get paid for any of it...

I have been a cnc programmer and machinist for the last 15 years. love it so much I don't call it work. I think I would call it playing. I am in the process of designing my own fly tying vise that will be machined out of solid aluminum and hardened tool steel.

I am in metal recovery and heavy equipment operations management for the past fourteen years, I am a carpenter by birth and prior to my current pain the@&$ job I ran my own construction business, I miss a lot of the construction work sometimes but on the other hand I haven't hit my thumb with 20 oz framing hammer in such a long time that I have almost forgotten how much fun that is!!! I keep telling my boss that if minimum wage reaches $15.00 per hour I am going to quit and become a Wal-Mart door greeter!!!

Ski boot fitter for the last year as well as part time ski patroller and outdoor emergency care instructor.

Worked my whole life in medicine up until then, primarily in blood banking and microbiology. Drives my parents nuts that I don't use my education currently, but man job satisfaction is a hell of a thing to have. I miss the science, not the work environment.

Retired from intel work after the USSR and the Cold War folded.

Chasing 'Islamisists';'activists'; or whatever the current PC term may be; with bad or no teeth, three dozen names a piece, and

lower IQs than their camels holds no attraction for me.

Never knew there were so many brainiacs into fly tying :) Money made me give up my 4.0 gpa and get a job instead of finishing my degree in Marine Mammal Biology.

I get to build jumps and set rails in the coolest machine imaginable (google "park bully" or "piston bully").

The view from the office isn't too bad either....

I think there is a fair ammount of overlap in the skiing/ fly fishing industries.

Buddies of mine are snow makers/groomers in the winter and trout guides in the summer.

As cool as your picture was, that's the view at the end of your day. This is the majority of your shift...

SnowTrails-Snowmaking-SnowCat-Pushing-Mt

Which I still think is pretty awesome. I love the hum of the guns running and the cats are amazing.

I like when you guys do your job right, results in fewer injuries for me to treat.

This picture looks like they were in the middle of a pretty decent push job. Is that for your half pipe build?? Taking your tiller off like this guy did really makes this job fun... I mean like playing in a sandbox with a huge toy fun..

I've noticed a huge overlap here as well. I'd say 60% of our crew are fisherman that fish at least once/week!

32 years selling furniture in retail stores. However,post-46603-0-99484600-1396390323_thumb.jpg I have to say this is not my passion anymore. I also have a small business that I build Canoes and Kayaks. I also have rental property I manager along with a wife and two teenage daughters that are in school. Not together... I mean... she is not in school with them.

That Kayak is beautiful. How much do you get for one of those ? How long does it take you to build one ???
