In Alaska, most of our streams have young Lamprey eels in them and many of our predatory fish feed on them. They spend the first two years of their lives in fresh water and can be anywhere from an inch long to two feet. This imitation is eight inches long.

The green is just for a hot spot and so I can call the fly the Billie Eilish. I'm sure the pike will eat it up.

Ray Bergman Bucktail

This recipe is from “Streamer Fly Tying and Fishing” by Joseph D Bates Jr

Thread – Black
Body – Flat silver tinsel
Throat – A very small bunch of red hackle fibers, rather short
Wing – A small bunch of white polar bear fur over which is a very small bunch of pale yellow bucktail. The wing is sparsely dressed
Shoulders – Each the tip of a red body feather from a macaw, one third as long as the wing

Updated Recipe

Hook – Streamer style
Thread – Black
Body – Flat silver tinsel
Throat – A very small bunch of red hackle fibers, rather short
Wing – A small bunch of white bucktail over which is a very small bunch of pale yellow bucktail. The wing is sparsely dressed
Shoulders – Each the tip of a dyed red hen feather

Not wanting to use the little amount of polar bear I have, I substituted white bucktail

Having no red macaw feathers I substituted dyed red hen hackle tips

A Billie Eilish Fly ... It should have a great singing voice and a very weird sense visual information.  But I love it!

Doesn't she usually do her hair in blue?  Yes, she does.  Blue ... mmmmmmmm.

I was wondering who would recognize the reference. This is the one I've seen the most. We better be careful or someones going to move this thread to "The Lodge" 😋😋

Some horned caddis flies.   I got the abdomen idea from Davey McPhail.  I am sure this is a pattern for someone else out there but just kinda did something different on the head and thorax than Davey.  I wanted something heavier, so tunsten bead and added some horns, I don’t think that one had the horns.  Anyway...  this was my afternoon today, got a few done.  Like 10 I think.

Same pattern on different hooks.  Polar Shrimp.  Top fly is on Alan Jackson Steelhead iron.  Reduced dressing.  Next is on Alan Jackson iron with straight eye.  Third is traditional haiirwing on Diachi Salmon/Steelhead hook.  Pics taken with phone.  Sorry about shadows.
