Gerbec’s Resting Caddis

A neat, flatwater Wally Wing pattern.  2 nice videos to choose from; one from the originator, Alex Gerbec, and another from Charlie Craven.

hook - WFC Model 11 #12
thread - Veevus 8/0 tan
rib - SexiFloss brown
abdomen/thorax - dubbing tan 
underwing - CdC 
wing - mallard flank dyed tan
hackle - ginger

Skip Shrimp:

Hook: Mustad 3407, #1/0

Thread: Uni-Thread 6/0, tan

Tail: Slinky Fiber, shrimp

Antennae: Krystal Flash, copper

Eyes: Burnt mono

Body: Cactus chenille, medium, tan

Legs: Saddle hackle, barred tan

Rib: 0.3mm wire, copper

Back: Craft foam, 2mm, tan

Weedguard: Hard mono, 25lb

The shrimp are on the move and the snook are taking advantage. A lot of fun stalking fish busting on bait on the shorelines...

Resting Sally (Gerbec style)

The fly just didn’t look right on the curved shank hook so I used a short-shank dry.

hook - BVFT Dry #14
thread - Veevus 8/0 yellow 
tag - Single Strand floss fluoro orange 
rib - Midge Krystal Flash pearl
abdomen/thorax - dubbing pale yellow
underwing - CdC 
wing - mallard flank dyed tan
hackle - light ginger

Thx. All mallard flank is not alike; the one I used on the Caddis split evenly along the stem, Sally’s did not. I should have put the feather in a damp paper towel and microwaved it for 10-15 seconds (since I don’t usually use high grade feathers for these flies, this should be standard operating procedure).

Back: Swiss straw with Clear Cure Goo, thick, UV resin overcoat

Antennae: Krystal Flash, copper

Markings: Sharpie marker, brown

Nice work! I've been fiddling around with this pattern myself. No one make a better tying video than Charlie Craven.  It is an excellent fishing fly in addition to being a good looking fly.

Tail - Barred imitation lemon wood duck fibers

Ribbing – Gold or copper wire

Body – Hares ear dubbing

Legs - Barred imitation lemon wood duck fibers

Head - Hares ear dubbing

I substituted imitation lemon wood duck feathers to preserve my limited supply of the real lemon wood duck feathers. The fish will never know the difference.
