DFoster 0 Report post Posted February 9, 2022 45 minutes ago, DarrellP said: DFoster, how did you apply the squirrel tail underfur legs? Dubbing loop? They are simply tied in with waxed threat tight wrap. I used Semperfli fly tying wax for grip. There is a small bunch of long fibers at the rear of the thorax and another at the front of the thorax. If you look at the first photo closely you can see there is a slight gap in the long fibers at the middle of the thorax. The tying wax really tightens down hard on the slippery squirrel fur. I've been using Davie McPhails method of preparing the wax, which heats the rosin and makes it more tacky than straight off of the block. If you're not familiar with tying wax vs dubbing wax and McPhail's method, here are a couple of links- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HF0tRNJpCQI&list=PL-x7IXRms3aXO5wQ1ab2yk2zi1otsswvD&index=9 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IN4N92G14Xg

Philly 0 Report post Posted February 10, 2022 Time to end the streak of terrific flies. There was a post on another board from a guy looking for a "particular streamer". A guy he worked with in a machine shop gave him a bunch to him about 35 years ago and he's down to his last two and looking to replace. You can see in the picture that the prop and clevis are one piece and most likely handmade. I don't know of anything like them available commercially these days. I tied two with the standard prop configuration. I think I'll feed them to chain pickerel.

I tied two with the standard prop configuration. I think I'll feed them to chain pickerel. I tie a lot of spinner flies and streamers. When nothing was happening on White I put on a sneaky Pete and caught my biggest trout out of the White. Wasn't all that big either but never done that well on that river as fun as it is to fish. Little wet flies with tiny spin prop are great for panfish. A jig I used a lot back in old days was called the Whistler and had a prop behind jig head and in front of feathers or blank hook with minnow. Often woke walleyes up when we knew they were there but not taking normal stuff.
