  1. Kind of like a longue lizard with a vasectomy.
  2. Sedotti Slammers I go through that stuff like Milk Duds.
  3. I believe they are susposed to sit point down. Most of mine don't. When I actually fish them on a sinking line I find they ride true because the foam pulls them up against the line.
  4. There's some nice deer hair work here... Surface patterns are probably the best way to catch bass in stained water, but there are times when they wont come up to hit a fly. For those times my favorite trick is to use a very loud annoying surface bug - the solid foam head poppers are great. Then rig a small nymph or bugger as a dropper. The popper gets the attention the dropper catches the fish.
  5. The Plipper is pretty interesting looking - especially the placement of the hook. Like many people I've always enjoyed using frog, mouse, and other topwater patterns but never found them to be all that good for hooking up. That hook seems to be almost an entire body length away from the action.
  6. I'm Damn opposed!!! Don't need Chris Hansen snooping around here.

    Do Fish Feel Pain

Fish feel pain exactly the same was the Terminator does. Their body systems alert them to when they have taken damage or are in peril. Humans imagine and fear pain. Thats why some people may not be able to watch a doctor give them a needle, but barely feel it if they are distracted. A good example would probably be the difference between a boxer and a normal guy. When a boxer gets punched it hurts but he is trained to not fear it and to respond, a normal guy feels it much worse since there is surprise fear shock all rolled into that one punch.
  8. Just be careful ordering clothing some of their items are listed with European or Asian sizes which aren't the same as American - they usually have a conversion chart on the page that you can check.
  9. Another economical way to buy them is to find a guy who needs different sizes than you. I bought a cape with a guy from the internet once he wanted the small feathers - I wanted the big ones for saltwater worked out pretty well.
  10. Hi Mike, Circle hooks are the best hooks to use in any situation where the fish grabs the fly and then turns, doesn't have to be a full turn. The worst situation for them is when a fish takes the fly and then stays still (most often the case with largemouth bass fishing). Most of my striper fishing is done with circle hooks, and all my bluefish flies are circles Pike have a tendency to strike both ways. If I was tying flies for them to use in still water I'd stick with traditional J hooks, in rivers I'd be more tempted to use a circle hook. If I knew I was going to hookup with a monster pike I'd perfer to fight him on a circle hook. Not a definitive answer I know.
  11. The squid around here will take just about any fly. To target them specifically I'd go with something smallish and made of marabou.
  12. I just have to recommend a Regal. I'm using one thats probably at least 35 years old - at any rate its older than I am... Not true rotary but rotates, and perfect for a beginner.
  13. Thats a hell of a lot better than my first fly. Great head, which is usually the hardest thing to learn - I've been tying for a long time and I still crowd my heads.
  14. The fly I use the most is a synthetic baitfish - similar to a deciever in function if not form. Just an aside "saltwater" is a pretty big place - what works in one area may not work in another even if you are targeting the same species.
  15. Just learn a lesson from it. That guy did something, you responded, you got punished - unfortunately thats the way of the world, and part of becomming an adult is that you have to learn to deal with and live in such a world. Now was the three day suspension worth kicking some twerp's ass - probably, on Thanksgiving week, Hell Yeah. Eventually you will most likely want to continue your education at some point (or get a job, join the military, etc) and this will come up and you will be questioned about it. Again no big deal, but something to consider. The most trouble I've ever been in I got in because I beat the snot out of a guy who had just stabbed my brother. Seems justifiable but society is extremely hypocritical even though this was in High School it still comes up whenever I go to Jury duty and I was refused by the Big Brother organization because of it - in Oatka's example had the guy killed the would be rapist he would have gotten in trouble - undeservedly so but he would have. Our society is run by a pack of pussies.
  16. Wait a second people actually fish when ice fishing... All this time I was under the impression "Ice-fishing" was just a euphemism for "drinking."

    Score!!!

I'm with Oatka - she just bought you stuff for your tying room because she wants you to make it a nursery.
  18. Same story up here...there are pods of schoolies that can give you action all day but no bird activity, no significant bait and no real consistency day to day as far as location. I haven't caught a keeper since the end of September - weird fall, still better than last year at least for me.
  19. I'm talking about the annual trade shows not television shows. Here in Neew England two of the bigger three day shows have been cancelled - persumably because they are not viable. I was curious if this was a trend or just isolated (the argument could be made that New England had too many shows). If this was a general trend I'd suspect that internet sales or perhaps even the general interest in fly fishing may have dropped off - that doesn't seem to be the case. I look forward to the shows each winter - I especially enjoy the casting pool - but recently this seems to have been minimized. I remember when I was a kid they used to have competitions and stuff, now its mainly about moving product.
  20. Two of the more popular fly fishing shows in New England have been canceled for this winter. Taken as a percentage thats a huge reduction in an area where fly fishing is a fairly popular sport and has many "flavors" salt, trout, and warmwater all in a relatively small geographic area. Just wanted to see if guys in other parts of the country/world are experiencing a similar trend.
  21. Thats why it didn't make sense to me....I can't relate
  22. No Fly Time don't censor yourself tell us how you really feel. I just don't see the upside, how does this guy plan to make any money doing this?
  23. If the water is clear one fly (material really) you may want to try is yak hair. I find a yak fly with a super hair tail and a final over under wing of unique hair - the synths kind of corral the yak - is very productive in clear water since its nigh-invisible. Also works for me with browns and tiger trout in clear ponds. Sound like salt water fishing without the salt I'm jealous salt sucks.
  24. Steve those look just like striper flies - may have better luck searching saltwater patterns. Now this "surf" you speak of - is this just the shore of the Great Lakes?
