About 10 years ago (give or take), I hit a wakeboard boat's waves while running at about half speed. Spit me out of my boat like I'd jumped on a trampoline. Didn't have my engine lanyard on either. The engine dropped to idle and kicked to one side, so it was circling. I tried to grab it on the way by a couple of times, but I was running out of stamina and if I didn't get to shallow water, I was going to drown. I swam for shore, and was going under for the last time when my toes touched bottom. I was able to bounce for air, and step my way to shallower water ... escaped death by less than 12 inches, is the way I feel. A foot deeper water, and i don't think I'd have been able to bounce up for air like that. The wakeboard guys notice the boat, and were able to "corral" it. So, all luckily worked out in the end. I've worn my lanyard and PFD EVERY TIME and ALL THE TIME I'm in the boat ever since. Yep, I had a close call like that one time too. A story for another time though. Glad you didn't die, Dude. Let that be a lesson for all you other guys.

Beauts all of em. The cutty in the first pic is the one I like the best. The other two are way nice also. Where is that secret spot?
bdngrd 0 Report post Posted June 24, 2020 Thanks Sandan, I was outside of Phillipsburg, MT - I had hoped to catch the salmon fly hatch on Rock Creek, but was a bit late or a bit early I couldn't tell. The fish hit on caddis patterns willingly enough though!

That is a beautiful tail-water that I happen to live just a few minutes away from. On hot, humid mornings I'm often graced with a similar scene. niveker 0 Report post Posted July 5, 2020 Spent a few hours each Friday & Saturday fishing the local tail-water with my brother. We saw some pretty good action both days, including at least a dozen chuncky Rainbows on the section we fished Saturday, and the usual bunch of scrappy little smaller guys. Not a single Brown trout, oddly enough. All my big Rainbows fell for the March Brown Jig Nymph received from Steve(stabgnid) in the Trout Jig Fly Round Swap. We also did surprising well on #8 Grizzly King streamer.
