January flies from the vise

Recommended Posts

Time for a few bait fish. They are tied with craft fur. They are 5" long, on a modified 1/0 hook. I think they should work for Bass and Pickerel and possibly even Speckled Sea Trout and Reds.

Here are a couple articulated bucktails I tied up last this past weekend and some different articulated sliders and the mess of a desk I have since I don't currently have any room in boxes for my big flies...

Harold ... I think I like your popper, but I can't tell. The background overwhelms the fly and I can hardly tell where yours begins and the background ends.

I promise you would certainly like it if you saw it in person. The good doctor ties beautiful poppers!

I took the picture the other day with my iphone and didn't really have anything else to lay the popper on at the time. I realized it was pretty busy, but that was it at the time. I'll be putting up some others later.

Necessity is the mother of invention they say. I'm out of black hen hackle, and a friend wants some Black & Green spiders for the lochs (I would use much less hackle on a river fly). Searching for something to use I looked at a pheasant skin and found these dark feathers with iridescent green on the barbs around the neck. I think they'll do.

Hook: Wet fly size 12.

Thread: Veevus 14/0 yellow.

Body: Peacock tinsel (Uni, on the back of copper tinsel) Coated with Diamond Fine UV resin.

Hackle: Iridescent green black from the neck of a melanistic pheasant.

The bead head is 3mm and covered with hen pheasant wing covert.

Cheers,

C.
