troutguy 0 Report post Posted August 7, 2016 Troutguy, Great looking fly. Is that silicone to make the taper? No silicone on the fly. The taper is in the positioning of the fur when tying and the trimming. A fine textured fur gives the translucence .

That's what the fibers look like wet, in his hand.

Saltybum 0 Report post Posted August 8, 2016 Just one question Dan. On the average how long does it you to tie one of your works of art? Truly amazing work.
deerhairdan 0 Report post Posted August 8, 2016 Just one question Dan. On the average how long does it you to tie one of your works of art? Truly amazing work. Thanks...from start to finish...actual time is a very very long time...but that is because I take breaks. My attention span gives out and I have to leave the room for a few hours and come back. I dont understand how people can sit at a vise for 8-9 hours a day. If you combine the the actual tying time into one session, it would be around 40-50 minutes per fly...most of which is the carving. I am pretty much anal when it comes to that.
