This is awesome. Definitely one of my favorite flies I’ve seen. That green is just cool!

Thanks! I really like this green too. I have other olive colored tails but nothing else this green.

Patriot Fly

IMG-9208c.jpg

Hook: #14 dry

Thread: Red Uni 8/0 (bright orange/red fluorescent 6/0)

Wings: Calf tail

Tail: grizzly variant fibers (brown hackle fibers)

Body: Ice blue flashabou (smolt blue krystal flash), red thread, ice blue flashabou (smolt blue krystal flash)

Hackle: brown

*(original recipe)

** missed a small strip of the underbody at the base of the tail, tail fibers may be too long, crowded the head a bit, ended up pushing the hackle back to whip finish properly.

Tail - Narrow strip of natural chamois skin

Body - Black chenille with a wide band of flat silver tinsel

Hackle - Furnace tied on as a collar and tied back

From the book - I discovered the two preceding patterns in Washington State where they were being used as bass flies. It was some years later before I learned they were originally intended for steelhead.

Never saw chamois used in a tail, interesting, must be a very durable tail might add a little weight when wet. has anyone fished this pattern / style? tied and photographed to your usual high standards.

You do some nice poppers.  Are they mostly for your own consumption?
