October flesh from the vise

Recommended Posts

Modified copy of caloosa bugs weedless frog, on a 1/0 I need to get some smaller worm hooks.

Nice.. I had a bunch of #4s and #2's I scored at my local walgreens. I had never seen worm hooks so small. Just recently they got rid of the fishing isle. I have a few left, but will have to shop elsewhere now.

Trying to add some variety to my boxes lately. I realized I had a lot of foam, deer hair, and synthetics. So...I've been playing with feathers lately.

Tying some articulated streamers, fun stuff.

Great pattern!

Thanks Eide :)

Bulb,

What is the material for the head?

I love it.

Cheers mate, the head is a mix of thin flash like angelhair and gray cat fur from my old cat. The cat fur has allot of guardhairs in it and its is a bit longer than rabbit fur, i saved up a bunch and use it on all types of flies. Sorry for the late reply haven't checked in in a while, been pretty busy lately

No problem, Bulb. And thanks for the answer.

The material substitution is hillarious to me as there is a Spanish saying used in situations where someone has been fooled, which translates as “giving somebody cat instead of hare”.

Bulb, when I went back thru the posts I was thinking about your grey cat you mentioned.

When I saw your fly I thought nooo.. he didn't make zonker strips out of his cat.

Then I realized it was just the hair on the head of the fly...ha.

Well... People do have weird ways to immortalize their cats.

There is a drone frame configuration commonly called dead cat, named after... well... see for yourselves...

That's just nuts!

With the cow thing, maybe he's just trying to get in the Moo-vie business.

Some people taxidermy their dead dogs, so i don’t see why i can’t turn my cat into a zonkered pelt when it kicks the bucket . . . ;D

Haystack

Fran Betters 1930's.

Fran developed this pattern for slow-moving waters that were usually spring-fed.

He used a wing of deer hair that flared in an arc so that the lowermost hairs supported the fly in the surface waters.

The tail had bunched deer hair.

I substituted antron for the body to add sparkle.

Tail: Bucktail

Body: Tan antron

Wing: Deer body fur
