Okay, I’m getting better with my IPhone camera and IPad. I have been very impressed with all the flies posted on here, especially toothy’s Hendricksons and upnorthtiers pike streamers. So here is a size 20 bwo cripple loosely based on Rene Harrops pattern.

Hook- tiemco 100 size 20.

Thread- 16/0 olive veevus

Tail- mallard flank

shuck- brown antron

body- olive polish quill

wing- natural trout hunter cdc

Thanks for looking, Mike.

Kelly Galloup's Down Dun Red Quill Variant

This pattern is very effective as a dun or as a spinner.  I find it works particularly well for early season hatches that can happen in windy, inclement weather.  The bent hook gives the body a convincing radius.

Toothy, very nice! Speaking of bent hooks have you tied on the dachii 1230 weamer hook? Looks pretty cool and I’m going to give some a try. Keep up the good work!

Mike.

Hey Mike, I haven't tried those Truform patterns before.  I have always wondered how they land on the water.  I look forward to seeing yours.

Another Variant on Galloup's Down Dun in Red Quill

I had the idea to add a bit of CDC via the split thread technique to the hackle.  They always look a bit of a mess with hackle and CDC, but the CDC provides some movement which I think will contribute to the imitation of a crippled insect.
