Mike West 0 Report post Posted August 10, 2021 (edited) Hi, I’m getting ready for a big fly fishing trip in a couple days I’m trying to fill fly boxes up and I got into stuff that I have seen in three years and I’m just freaking out about how many flies I have I will never use some are pristine and some are kind of junkie but very usable. I estimate at least 500+ flies and some fly boxes. About 75% warm water stuff. I went to the website and all I could find about is donating money I got a phone call into them right now with a message and I’m waiting for a phone call back. anybody here associated with them I know how to go about donating flies? And are they legit I remember a few years ago they got some bad publicity about all the money not going to the Project. SilverCreek 0 Report post Posted August 10, 2021 Project Healing Waters is where you want to donate your flies. One of my friends runs the PHW at FT Belvior and shares the donated flies PHW at Quantico. Here is the Facebook link for PHW at Quantico and Ft. Belvior https://www.facebook.com/QuanticoPHW https://www.facebook.com/BelvoirPHW/ I tried to PM you with their contact information but you cannot receive PM's. Email me using Picaboo(at)charter.net replacing the (at) with @ symbol and I will send you the information. My friend sent me several articles about the PHW program and the new commander at Ft. Belvior. If any of you have seen the movie, Battleship, you will recognize Col. Gregory Gadson, a double amputee who played the part of Lt. Col Mick Canales in the movie. Col. Gadson has taken over command of Ft. Belvior and is a PHW participant. http://www.wjla.com/articles/2012/06/col-greg-gadson-taking-over-fort-belvoir-command-77138.html More photos below: http://www.flickr.com/photos/phwff-nova/sets/72157633913771290/

I had a similar experience when I responded to a call for volunteers to fish with veterans. Other times, my experience has been great with other PHW leaders. So I hope you give other chapters a chance.

Each chapter is ran by a volunteer so look into another chapter to donate too. A good friend of mine in Pa runs his local chapter and it's amazing how much he has invested and done for the chapter he runs. So don't let one exp with one chapter turn you off of the program. I have worked with them myself numerous times over the years with donating stuff and they are a great program that helps truly great people.
mikemac1 0 Report post Posted August 11, 2021 A lot of TU chapters have dedicated programs for local veterans and chapters are always fund raising. Donating flies and gear to a local TU chapter can be used not only for fund raising, but for direct support of veteran’s events. The Madison-Gallatin Chapter of TU is one of the largest and hosts several annual programs for Veterans and is always looking for flies and gear donations to support the events. That may have been the redfish swap, our chapter lead is pretty good about that type of thing.
