WWKimba 0 Report post Posted February 21, 2022 Caddis 2X2's today. Mart's Snowshoe Caddis - I know, I know there's a typo on the toe tag! This pattern is from Martin Westbeek, from Oisterwijk, Netherlands and he attributes this pattern to Fran Bettters for his work with using snowshoe hare's foot hair in his Usual fly pattern. Mart's Snowshoe Emerger and Snowshoe Sparkle Dun patterns were also designed with that same inspiration. Hook - Mustad 3366, 14-16 Thread - GSP to match Body - ultrafine dubbing dubbed thin Wing - snowshoe hare, extended just beyond the hook bend Thorax and Legs - snowshoe hare tied using a split thread method Micro Chenille Caddis Nymph Hook - curved scud, 16-20 Thread - black or to match Body - micro chenille tied as an extended body - common colors include green, tan and red (chartreuse used here) Thorax - can be peacock herl or a clear plastic/glass bead or both

WWKimba 0 Report post Posted February 22, 2022 A couple of floater 2X2's today. Dunc's Floating Carey - Designed by Duncan Laird who is a dragonfly specialist! Hook - Mustad 9672 or TMC 5263, 6-10 Thread - olive Body - mixed deer body hair spun and trimmed - Duncan has been known to mix up to 10 different colors for this fly and mixes them like one would mix dubbing! Hackle - pheasant rump (either blue phase or brown phase) Double Hackle - The originator of this pattern has been lost to history. This is one of those flies that can imitate just about anything a fish sees as food, depending of the colors you choose to tie it in. Use whatever color chenille (or peacock herl) and hackle colors you have on hand, and the hackles can be mixed colors. For a minnow pattern try a white/grey/golden chenille body with a dun hackles, a hopper would be red back hackle, green, olive, tan,or yellow body and olive or brown front hackle. A double ginger is tied here. Hook - Mustad 38941 or Mustad 79580, 8 Thread - black Rear Hackle - any color dry fly Body - any color chenille or peacock herl 4-6 piece twisted rope Front Hackle - any color dry fly, can match or differ from back hackle
